Director Creative Electronic Arts EA Redwood City

Job Description:
We are looking for a Creative Director for a new mobile project being made by Maxis at the Redwood City studio. The Creative Director will drive the games vision and contribute to the look and feel while getting hands on with the small team building this experience.

What skills does EA look for? A Creative Director must have a passion for games and a good understanding of what makes a game appealing to different audiences. They must possess imagination, creativity, and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and presentation skills. Perhaps as important as anything else, they must have the ability to inspire a team. They should have a strong understanding of player behavior and motivations. They need to use influence to drive a team forward such that the team believes in the game direction and understands the vision.

Key responsibilities
Driving the creative vision for a mobile game, communicating that vision to both internal and external stakeholders.
Developing and maintaining design documentation, including but not limited to mechanics, guidelines, UI flows, game loops, crafting and progression.
Planning and defining economy and gameplay tuning. Collaborate with Product Management and User Experience team to collect and integrating feedback from telemetry and user testing.
Working with the Producer to define and drive the design with regards to every facet of the game: mechanics, story, missions, and more.
Collaborate with team members across disciplines to implement and iterate on the game vision.
Devise crafting systems and balance in-game resources and economy to ensure player’s long term retention and to optimize monetization.
Evolve design decisions based on regular play testing, audience feedback, and live game telemetry.
Inspire the team through progressive, creative design and leadership.
Remain current on industry trends including: new game genres, new game design methods and emerging platforms.

Skills and experience
7 years of game design experience with some time on shipped mobile titles.
Passion for crafting amazing gaming experiences for the mobile platform!
Experience with F2P design on shipped titles.
Strong creative identity, imagination and holistic game design skills.
Knowledge of and affinity for the mobile games audience.
Creatively, analytically and organizationally skilled with proven ability to write, communicate and maintain detailed design documentation throughout the game’s life cycle.
Expert understanding of gameplay mechanics and systems.
Solid knowledge of game industry, trends, competition, platforms and market.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively at the team, studio and organization levels.

Additional Experience
Experience shipping a top ranked “Free to play” mobile game title
Experience planning and transitioning a team from development to live services
