Director Corporate Communications Hyatt Hotels Corporation Chicago

Job Description:
The individual in this role acts as a leader in the company’s global communications function and is responsible for developing and implementing corporate communications of all kinds – public relations, media relations, reputation management, crisis communications, and internal communications - for Hyatt on a global basis. The individual in this position will be a key member of the company’s communications management team, a trusted partner for senior leaders in operations, finance and development, a source of public relations and communications counsel for members of Hyatt’s C–suite, and an adviser/mentor to the Regional Corporate Communications Directors as well as more junior members of the Corporate Communications team.

The Primary Job Responsibilities Are
Crisis Communications Leadership: Support the continued evolution of the corporation’s crisis response capability, including overseeing the evolution of crisis communication processes and procedures, annual crisis exercises for the senior leadership team and continued training, preparation, and process improvement across the enterprise. Serve as leader/key member of the company’s real-time crisis response team acting as key liaison with social/digital team and key source of executive counsel for issues management/crisis response. Manage agency relationship with outside crisis counsel.
Media Relations: Act as spokesperson for the company on designated issues/positions and in response to media inquiries. Develop and maintain active contact with national/international media and bloggers that will benefit the company and the brands. Develop messages and materials for senior executives for a variety of outlets and uses on an ongoing basis
Team leadership/department coordination: Serve as key connector for HQ and Regional Corporate Communications directors globally, helping to ensure seamless execution of corporate and brand programs in multiple markets and global message consistency.
Communications Program Development: In conjunction with key stakeholders in the company, develop strategic external and internal communications programs in support of the Corporation’s objectives and strategic priorities (brand, marketing, operations and development plans) and work through/with Communications colleagues, partners in marketing, analytics and digital teams to implement those initiatives in a way that achieves measurable results.
Act as function ambassador and representative: Develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders of key functions across the enterprise, including C-Suite executives, marketing, development and operations VPs & Directors, and General Managers to enhance the credibility and relevance of the global communications function, seeking to ensure that all communications activities are closely aligned with the business’s priorities and objectives.
Business/financial communications: Serve as key contact for capital recycling and development communications and major transaction announcements (acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, joint ventures, etc.). Act as liaison with Investor Relations function on routine matters.
Social media: Serve as primary liaison with function’s partners in digital strategy. Keep department colleagues abreast of developments in social and technology that influence direction of the communications discipline and help keep department practices/thinking up to date and capable of supporting Hyatt’s leadership position in the industry.

Marketing
Minimum 12 years of corporate communications experience required, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience. Corporate, public company experience required. Agency experience is a plus.
High degree of personal and professional savvy and experience to inspire confidence among all audiences and at all levels of the organization.
Extensive media relations/spokesperson, agency/outside resource management experience.
Ability to lead through consensus, strong mentoring orientation/
High level of passion for communications, quality work, and team building.
Strong empathetic orientation and high level of personal commitment/caring. Unquestionable integrity.
Proven ability to produce a wide range of materials and content (press releases, social content, scripts, speeches, etc). Strong writer and editor.
Conceptual, strategic and creative thinker, capable of developing plans that deliver results.
Strong intellect, flexible and adaptable, stimulated by challenges, and open-minded with a strong desire to learn.
High level of business acumen.
Extremely sound, consistent judgment.
Travel/tourism/hospitality experience a strong plus.
Education
B.A./M.A. in Communications, English (or other liberal arts), Journalism, or Marketing.
Computer Skills Needed to Perform this Job
Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Familiarity with social channels and tools.

Additional Comments And Requirements
Ability to work in a highly demanding, rapidly changing, fast-paced, complex corporate environment where hours are often unpredictable.
Ability to travel as required internationally (approximately 10 – 25%).
