Job Description
The Sr. Director, Business Development (Merchant) is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and forging major strategic partnerships with top merchants for the Visa Commerce Network (VCN). This position requires a highly experienced business development professional. The role will be based at Visa's offices in Foster City & San Francisco.
Specific responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the entire VCN team to build a thriving merchant-publisher ecosystem
Help VCN’s leadership team define and execute VCN’s publisher strategy
Identify and evaluate potential merchant and merchant aggregation sources for their strategic and financial value; provide business rationale and analytics in support of these partnerships
Manage all aspects of merchant recruitment from pipeline to active discussions to close; develop a deal framework to facilitate future publisher on-boarding
Effectively manage transaction teams, both external (e.g. – outside legal, accounting, and consulting firms) and internal (e.g. – Visa: product, security, risk, processing, and legal)
Work closely with VCN’s merchant management team to maintain current relationships and to drive new revenue opportunities with existing partners
Work to improve VCN’s merchant product, including analytic tools and reporting
Identify best practices with respect to integration, offer configuration, and subsequent live optimization
Maintain business landscape knowledge to provide solid foundational context for all deals.
Build and foster close relationships with peer level functional and regional counterparts within Visa
Create and communicate compelling rationale for pursing particular business development transactions summarizing deal terms and strategic fit for Visa executive team
Qualifications
College degree required, MBA or law degree preferred
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in online advertising; minimum of 5+ years working with online publishers. Experience with online-to-offline models a huge plus!
Minimum of 12+ years of progressively more responsible experience in business development, strategy consulting, law, or investment banking
Exposure to technology, payments, or mobile and relevant business development experience critical
Experience syndicating merchant offers to online publishers
Thorough knowledge and expertise in strategy, opportunity sizing & prioritization, deal structuring, negotiation, and post-transaction partnership tracking
Ability to work within a complex and often ambiguous environment, to drive rigorous, fact-based recommendations to senior management and other relevant parties
