Job Description
Participates in the rate-making, reserving, and risk evaluation functions. Counsels management and advises on underwriting functions that require actuarial or mathematical techniques to determine appropriate courses of action. Assures preparation and interpretation of data in support of rate filings with various state insurance departments. Determines rates of mortality, sickness, retirement, etc. based on analysis of statistical data. Assists in design of insurance plans, calculation of premiums, determining cash reserves and premium rates necessary to ensure sufficient funds for benefits payment and profitability.
Functional Responsibilities: Directs and provides leadership in the design, pricing and implementation of insurance products; maintains the product line to comply with various state and federal regulations. Supervises analysis of sales, expense, persistency and morbidity experience; ensures product line is self-supporting. Maintains and communicates sales, mortality, and persistency experience; provides management reports for product lines. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Supervisor Responsibilities: Full people management responsibility. Responsible for effective hiring, firing, promotions, and performance appraisals and management, salary administration, training assessments and development plans, etc. for staff.
Required Experience:
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science.
10+ years relevant experience in the actuarial field. Strong knowledge of accounting concepts.
