Job Description
EMC's Market Intelligence team provides analytical and market research support to enable better decision making at the executive level. We serve a range of internal clients across most business functions. The successful candidate will lead the cloud/service provider expertise area. He/she will work with internal customers to define market intelligence needs, structure the work for/with the team and help execute the analysis. Market Intelligence will include the sizing and in-depth understanding of markets where needed, as well as identifying opportunities and threats due to market trends and emerging technologies. Sources include secondary research, internal/external interviews, surveys.
In addition, this individual will be expected to be a key contributor to group projects and initiatives while working in a highly collaborative manner.
Principal Responsibilities
The Director will play a key role in driving the direction of the Market Intelligence function as it increases visibility and strategic relevance to senior executives across multiple functions and business units
Monitor and analyze industry, customer and market trends both proactively and in support of specific initiatives, to provide insight to executives and project teams and raise awareness of trends and their potential impact on EMC
Structure and supervise related work by the team
Lead or participate in a variety of cross-functional initiatives to articulate market dynamics and customer needs and develop recommendations
Validate and quantify EMC opportunity in targeted business and solution areas
Support development of market and solution requirements documents, sales playbooks and other deliverables by providing fact-based summaries of customer need and EMC opportunity
Actively participate in building models, conducting secondary and primary research, creating slide decks
Key Competencies
Motivated self-starter with high level of personal accountability, who will proactively define the role and help shape the direction of the Market Intelligence function
Ability to frame business questions and determine data sources and analytical approaches to answer the questions
Ability to structure strategic questions and define data and analysis to help answer them
Demonstrated research and analytical ability including primary (both end-user surveys and internal data mining) and secondary, using both quantitative and qualitative sources
Experience with large data sets and advanced analytical techniques preferred
Ability to synthesize findings from multiple kinds of analysis into client-facing deliverables
Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to convey analytical insights in actionable business terms
Ability to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including senior management
Experience in strategic planning, management consulting or other client-facing consultative role
Familiarity with IT industry and demonstrated strong interest in technology
Required Experience
Minimum 6 years relevant work experience
MBA or advanced technical degree from top school
Consulting Team Leader/Manager/Engagement Manager type experience required
Strong communication skills and presence to engage with senior executives
Strong track record of outstanding performance with increasing levels of responsibility
