Director Territorial Creative Arts The Salvation Army Atlanta

Job description
Plans, develops and monitors all Salvation Army Creative Arts and Creative Arts Education Programs and activities throughout the Southern Territory; researches new ways of involving the total Salvation Army congregation in active worship; explores innovative models of creative worship outside of traditional Salvation Army instrumental and vocal music; looks for ways to incorporate drama, interpretive dance, Christian contemporary music and visual media; maintains and develops a territorial resource library of alternative programming ideas; develops and organizes pilot programs in the Creative Arts;
assists in writing articles on the Creative Arts; administers and leads the Territorial Creative Arts Ensemble; serves as a Territorial Music Committee member; assists with the ministry of the Territorial Band and/or Songsters; provides general assistance to the Territorial Music Secretary and Assistant Territorial Music Secretary/Director of Music Publications & Production as required.

Required Experience

Knowledge of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, culture and protocols. Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional education. Knowledge of the Bible, doctrine and theology. Ability to personally embrace, support and promote The Salvation Army mission and ministry in a manner that promotes creative arts programs. Skills in performing music, drama and/or dance. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively as an educator. Ability to organize and maintain an artistic library. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Physical Requirements

Ability to operate a vehicle. Ability to travel moderate amounts to various destinations throughout the Southern Territory. Ability to perform in front of a large audience. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while leading/directing dramatic/theatrical performances.

Working Conditions

Work may involve exposure to outdoor temperatures and changes in weather or discomforts associated with outdoor performances. Work is performed in a normal church and/or office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music, Music Education, Theater, Performance Art or a related field, AND Five years of experience developing and implementing Creative Arts programming alternatives OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
