Job description
The Director of Social Media must be a dynamic leader whose vision will aggressively grow the daily audience and awareness for Discovery Digital Networks’ content. The Director candidate needs to be a digital marketing and social media professional as well as a team leader with the ability to drive results against defined metrics. This role requires someone who will take risks to drive growth through creativity, data-driven insights, optimization, and iteration in a frequently changing environment.


The Director of Social Media will lead a department of eight, with four direct reports, to perform at top capacity on a daily basis. The position reports to the VP, Audience Development & Marketing and will frequently collaborate with DDN departmental leaders to provide strategic guidance, identify opportunities, and solve problems.

This position is located in San Francisco, CA.

Responsibilities:

This position will lead and implement a social media strategy that utilizes all levers including content marketing, optimization/testing, paid media, research, reporting, and partnerships
Be a multi-platform expert, staying current with product updates, across Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Google+, Snapchat, and more
Manage department budget and report to finance monthly on spending allocations
Develop culture and processes for relentless optimization of existing products, A/B testing, and experimentation
Develop audience research, narratives, and segmenting capabilities that help make our experiences most valuable to advertisers
Manage a team of specialists that oversees daily publishing of DDN’s video with the ultimate goal of increasing views
Optimize content and publishing tactics to provide the best possible conditions for audience growth
Facilitate both tactical and high-level communication with other DDN teams including programming, product and sale
Lead the development of cross-promotion programs with other sites, talent, franchises and publishers to drive awareness of DDN’s content
Provide regular reporting based on audience size and engagement metrics to measure growth and inform ongoing strategy shifts
Execute against key performance indicators by constantly adjusting weekly tactics with an eye toward long term goals
Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree, MBA preferred
6+ years experience in social media, preferably in a media/content company
Strong experience involving strategies around video optimization and YouTube
Proven ability to lead strategy, mobilize others, and succeed on a shared vision
Ability to balance big-picture thinking with strong attention to detail
Must be a driven and curious self-starter who can identify areas for improvement
Strong analytic and critical thinking skills, ability to interpret data to make decisions
Able to define and speak in a brand voice, strong written and verbal skills\
Must have legal right to work in the United States.

Overall increase in video views from social media traffic
Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and consistency of execution
