Job Description
The Art Director creates cohesive product lines and impactful “key items,” depending on the strategy for a particular retailer or potential retail opportunity. The goal is always to create high-caliber, marketable product that builds the overall Hallmark brand. The Gift Solutions group pursues many new opportunities, so the AD must work closely with the team to turn products around quickly. S/he will also link with Product Managers to define and maintain overall design line balance throughout the planning and designing process, shaping the look and range of the line.



The AD is also is in charge of guiding an editorial perspective on the product line from item specific copy to the overall editorial voice of a line. She/he manages the creative development of multiple programs at a time. The Senior AD identifies and requests talent from the studio: designers, writers, editors, engineers, lettering artists, visual merchandising and packaging support to execute the program.

Basic Qualifications

+ years of Design, Art Director Apprentice, or Art Director experience?
experience using Adobe CS (Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign)?PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ years managing/ directing groups of people
+ years directing product
People Management Experience
Understanding of retail dynamics, including assortment planning & merchandising, and product replacement strategies
Proven skills in developing talent and teams to deliver collectively against performance expectations
Extensive skills in ideation and innovation processes and frameworks
Experience introducing product into a big box retailer environment
Proven skills in visioning, scanning, and inventing profitable revenue consumer solutions
Strong leadership and influence skills
Working knowledge of digital technology, e-commerce
