Job description
The Senior Director of Design Snacks is a senior design leader responsible for the identification, creation, management, and
execution of comprehensive brand design strategies that will have a major impact on the innovation and growth of multibillion dollars brands across the whole Global Snacks Group.
S/he will develop a design strategy for the key global snacks trademarks by partnering with the Global Brand Teams, Foodservice Group, and external agencies to translate the brands' positioning into a compelling design language which is focused enough to be ownable and distinctive, yet flexible enough to work across all of the brands' multiple touch points with consumers globally - from advertising and digital interactions to delivery trucks and store displays.
Strategic Design Leadership: Leads design strategies within the Global Snacks Group: demonstrating an ability to understand the technical, social and emotional values that have critical business significance. Successfully directs multi-disciplinary design teams and actively mentors design colleagues. Maintains a flow of value through the integration of the business strategies, market and social trends, and available latest technologies. Develops and adjusts strategies and/or processes to meet changing market and competitive conditions while considering the impacts on the global business
Design R&D and Innovation: Identifies and promotes self-initiated brand design programs that generate critical business value for one or more business groups, having great impact on multibillion dollars brands.
External Design Network: Supports the PepsiCo Design Organization in building and cultivating a strong external design network.
Talent Development: Responsible for finding and attracting the best design talent and for leading and mentoring internal staff. Establishes objectives, supervises activities, and manages performance. Plays an active role in expanding talent bench depth, improving office atmosphere and coaching teams to win.
Design Project Management: Responsible for partnering across disciplines within PepsiCo and external suppliers to ensure design assets are developed and delivered with quality, value, and on-time. Energizes and leads both the internal team and external design resources from idea phase to commercialization. Ensures each stakeholder understands his/her role and responsibilities throughout the creative process. Regularly reviews the status of projects with appropriate leadership to verify that Company and Division expectations are met.
Brand Design Development: Takes ownership of the visual identity for the global snacks portfolio, working in collaboration with the Chief Design Officer, the Product Design Leader and the other design leaders in the organization, cutting across brand, product, packaging, marketing equipment, and advertising worldwide. Generates creative design proposals (visions, scenarios, concepts) in order to visualize the desired output and share it with internal and external team members. Participates in research activities and effectively translates customer needs into actionable design requirements. Responsible for driving to final design recommendations, decisions and design approval to enable artwork execution / production phases. Ensure thorough consideration of all project variables and that the final solution will perform as planned.
Supporting the PepsiCo Design Organization Globally: Partners regularly with Design, R&D and business teams outside the US. Shares work and supports the development of global design culture.
Qualifications:
10+ years of deep brand design experience (preferably in a global and matrixed environment or working as consultant from a design firm for such organizations)
A gifted manager and leader
Extraordinary design taste
Ability to work in ambiguous and dynamic work environment; is comfortable with risk and uncertainty
Great knowledge of art production and graphic design principles
Very business savvy
Deep expertise in graphic design software
A global citizen with a deep understanding of the global marketplace and a passion for culture.
Can effectively influence senior levels in the organization across regions and functions
Can get things done through formal and informal channels
Effectively communicates (verbally and written) with internal and external stakeholders across all levels
Works well with others to deliver results; keeps others informed to avoid unnecessary surprises
Must be willing and able to travel 30% of the time
