Senior Director - Big Data Technology and Personalization - SEPHORA - San Francisc


Job description
Sephora is looking for a (Senior) Director of IT, Analytics & Personalization to drive the development of technology, infrastructure and big data solutions that will power our next generation of personalization and consumer insights.

This role is part Architect, part Delivery Lead, part Technology Partner and part Evangelist. This is an individual contributor role, although you will be managing vendors, outsourced technology platforms, and potentially internal consultants. As our footprint in this area grows, so will your responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Define the use of existing and new technologies to design and deliver our Analytics 2.0 strategy (personalization, customer insights).
Define the future state data management capability being built on Big Data capabilities (like Hadoop) as well as by leveraging traditional DW technologies where applicable.
Be our internal expert on current and emerging technologies, while in parallel effectively executing on projects
Architect solutions for key initiatives ensuring alignment with big data strategy and future state architecture vision
Inform, develop and deliver on technical roadmap of in support our business goals in terms of personalization, CRM and beyond

Desired Skills and Experience
Successful architecture, design and build of Big Data analytics platforms as well as Data Warehouse; experience with related software architectures and tools, streaming technologies, cloud services, analytic tools
Solid experience with customer insights/CRM marketing platforms and personalization, Recommendation Engine
Broad understanding of the landscape, with the capability to go deep into details; the ability to think big and roll up your sleeves as well
Experience building highly scalable software solutions, some management of engineering teams
Proven and strong experience partnering with business on technology for customer insights and analytics across retail, digital marketing or other business to consumer organizations
Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesize and explain complex technology terms and stories across the organization to build credible relationships.
Ability to influence, connect and collaborate with a variety of groups and personalities, both technical and not technical, at all levels within the organization.
Flexible and strong leader with an ability to inspire and motivate self and others to high performance, willing to roll up his/her sleeves to move the team and company forward.
Comfort starting as a team of 1 as we define the strategy and then working with both vendors and potentially a future in-house team to deliver
Experience evaluating vendors and products both technically as well as functionally
Success leading multiple projects through the entire SDLC (agile or agile/hybrid), including exploration and discovery
Proven ability to deliver solutions
10+ years of technology implementation experience including data and data management technologies
4+ years in a leadership role as well as a solid, committed work history
2+ years of experience developing & delivering against long-term, strategic technology roadmaps
Experience with data marts
