Director - Visual Design - Devices - Amazon - Seattle
Job description
You are an experienced visual design leader who has successfully demonstrated taking business goals and turning them into inspiring world-class designs. You understand the complexity of marketing and know how to set the visual standard for different categories. You have strong organizational skills, web expertise, design ability, typographic skills, and acute attention to detail. You are a hands-on designer with strong vision and big-picture thinking.
We are Amazon Devices, including Kindle, the #1 bestselling, most gifted and most wished for product on Amazon.com. We are responsible for creating, developing and always improving the devices' online marketing presence, including Fire Tablets, Fire TV, Echo, and Dash, as well as Kindle. Our aim is to deliver compelling designs that create an elevated customer experience. We start with the customer in mind as we strive to create a successful shopping experience and grow the Kindle brand.
Responsibilities
· Develop and strengthen Device brand assets and collaborate with the design community to ensure consistent use
· Set design direction for on-site experiences, and handle projects from concepting through asset production
· Develop and mentor visual designers and contractors on the team
· Enhance the team knowledge of best design practices and trends in web and graphic design
· Work with various categories to refresh/improve Device's presence on their home pages
· The ability to present design solutions and gracefully defend your design decisions to executive management
· Understand and respond to performance data (metric tests, usability studies), and steer the direction of future creative designs
· An exceptional online portfolio demonstrating strong conceptual thinking and creative problem solving
· Minimum of 7 years of experience in web design/online marketing
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in team leadership and mentoring junior designers
· Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to meet aggressive deadlines
· Ability to work cross-team and synthesize feedback from multiple teams/owners
· Proficiency with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
· Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent professional experience
· eCommerce/retail design experience
· Excellent communication skills and great attitude, enjoy engaging with multiple stakeholders to understand and solve challenges
· Experience managing visual designers
· Sense of humor
