Director - Sports Sponsorships - American Express - New York City

Job description
This role requires a tenured leader (at Director level) to oversee the sports property, teams and venue sponsorship portfolio for American Express which includes over 20 marquis partnerships across golf, tennis, basketball, hockey and more. Responsible for establishing the strategic focus for the portfolio and delivering on brand and business results, while keeping continuing to drive forward-thinking strategies for our role in the space. Develop and lead all 360 activation plans across experiential, media, digital, social and PR.
This includes the creative and briefing process across multiple agency teams through all the programmatic execution across disciplines. Partner with our business affairs team to lead all partnership evaluations, deal negotiations and contract reviews for partnership renewals and prospective new deals. Proficiency in sponsorship measurement and asset valuation is required to measure how our programs are driving the brand and the business. Partner with colleagues across all lines of business to develop strategic sponsorship programs in support of business priorities and product launches. Some travel required (less than 10%) to execute onsite programs and visit markets for partnership building. People management required.

• Strong experience working with the sports industry; passion for the sports business

• Highly experienced in managing multiple high-profile partnerships

• Executive presence and presentation skills

• Effective communicator at all levels, with experience with external press and industry communication

• Proficiency in budget management

• Exceptional people management skills and experience working closely with multiple creative agencies

• High energy, self-starter, team-oriented, creative and entrepreneurial spirit

• Well-versed in analytics, consumer insights and employing a customer first approach to all partnership activations

• Experience in people management
