Job description
Position Summary
The Director of Safety, Corporate Safety & Quality department is responsible for providing strategic planning, direction, and analysis for the enterprise wide Environmental Health and Safety functions, including oversight of all safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Engaging with senior management to strengthen the company’s existing program and create new, innovative approaches to ensuring safety across the company.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Analyze and oversee all safety policies, programs and procedures including, but not limited to hazardous materials program, safety permits programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Keep abreast of new and existing relevant laws, rules and regulations, and takes actions appropriate to ensure timely compliance and communication to appropriate divisions/departments.
• Identify and analyze trends in order to ensure the company's compliance strategy and policies are comprehensive and effective.
• Analyze, evaluate, identify and recommend new strategic, creative approaches to improve safety.
• Provide strategic safety direction and leadership to all safety initiatives, the company's safety representatives, and to senior managements.
• Collaborate with senior management to ensure strategy and initiatives are executed at the highest levels.
• Collaborate with corporate departments to update, develop and implement safety training courses, and identify training resources that can assist the field in meeting their training needs.
• Develops resources at the business unit, provides technical guidance and training to identify and evaluate hazards, and implement effective controls.
• Develop and manage internal safety databases and websites to track designated project health and safety personnel, audit corrective action plans and other program metrics.
• Oversee all safety and worker's compensation staff and provide strategic guidance to senior management regarding prevention of workplace accidents and illnesses.
• Analyze, evaluate and provide senior management with dashboards and metrics that measure effectiveness of the safety compliance and training programs.
• Analyzes and provides trend data for employee injuries, and third-party incidents.
• Act as liaison with other organizations and relevant authorities including, but not limited to Global Headquarters, subcontractors, and local/state/federal agencies and oversee the response to any inquiries or inspections.
Supervision
Safety specialist.
Education
• Bachelor's degree (Required).
• Certified Safety Professional / Certified Industrial Hygienist designation preferred.
Required
• 7 - 10 years’ experience on the field of Environmental Health and Safety required.
• OSHA safety inspections, accident investigations and lead developing safety policies/programs. Comprehensive knowledge of government regulations/code compliance, including California OSHA, and relevant regulations and state laws.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred
• Prior experience in the 3PL Logistics, freight forwarding, container freight stations, and warehousing environment.

Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands. Employee must have the ability to see written documents and computer screens.
Work Environment. Work conditions vary at office/facility locations and include warehouses, where employee may occasionally work near moving equipment/mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, freight trailers, containers and outside weather conditions, and may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Personal protective equipment may be required. Noise level in the warehouse environment is occasionally loud but within industry.
Job Context Factors
Position requires extensive travel, up to 30% of time within the United States. Some international travel in the “Americas” may be required.
