Director - Regional Communications - Fidelity Investments - Denver


Job description
The Regional Communications Director is responsible for developing, managing and executing external and internal communications plans and key activities for their assigned Fidelity regional sites. This position is based in Denver and has responsibilities for the Salt Lake City regional office as well. The Director reports to the Vice President for Regional and Community Relations Communications and must be capable of working with all levels of the organization.


Responsibilities include developing relationships with and communicating key messages to local news media to build profile for Fidelity supporting key business priorities including talent recruitment and retention. The Director will design, manage and drive results for key strategic initiatives that support regional goals.


Primary Responsibilities:

External communications:
Develop, manage and execute on annual external regional communications plans, positioning Fidelity as an employer of choice and a respected corporate citizen in the regions where our associates live and work.
Seek and pursue opportunities to leverage this message effectively primarily through: Building local media relationships; promoting regional community relations activities; participating in workplace ranking surveys; and integrating with HR on major recruitment activities.
Provide external communications support to Regional Site Leaders or other regional representatives including the development of presentations, talking points, press releases, and other materials.
Provide communications support for community relations and Fidelity Cares activities in assigned region(s).
Serve as the regional spokesperson in consultation as needed with Corporate Media Relations.

Internal Communications:
Develop, manage and execute on annual internal regional communications plan for assigned region(s).
Serve on the Regional Leadership Team and as the sponsor of the Regional Communications Workstream.
Serve as communications counselor and coach to the Regional Site Leaders, and as needed RLT members, and develop materials (including talking points, presentations, Ribbit site postings, Your Voice memos, videos, etc.) to support internal communication needs.
Promote region activities locally, and where appropriate nationally, through a variety of communications channels include Regional Ribbit sites, Fidelity Central, etc.

Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience:
The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience as a communications professional (preferably in corporate communications, PR agency and/or within the financial services industry) with deep experience in media relations and pitching feature article ideas.

Skills and Knowledge:
Outstanding communications, interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and related resources.
Understanding of news media and experience as a spokesperson.
Experience advising executives on media relations and messaging.
Deadline oriented.
Excellent writing, editing and research skills.
Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and media relations platforms such as Vocus.
Ability to work well with and counsel senior management and across all levels of an organization.
Quick study (with a solid familiarity with basic business and financial services concepts, issues, products and trends) who can help generate and “sell” creative ideas and new approaches.
Strong team player and relationship manager.
Knowledgeable about social media platforms and their relevance to business communications.

Other:
Travel required; 10-15%.
