Director - Oil and Gas, Corporate Banking - Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation - Houston


Job description
SMBC is looking for a Director level to join the Oil and Gas team within SMBC's Corporate Banking Department. The role is located in SMBC's Houston Office. The Director will leverage relationships and generate ideas (strategic and corporate finance) to augment existing client relationships and establish new client relationships with SMBC’s platform.

Candidate must have strong knowledge and experience in the oil and gas sector, an understanding of capital markets (public equity, private equity, investment grade debt, sub-investment grade debt and private debt) and capital markets transactions, and an understanding of M&A, restructuring and capital raising dynamics and transactions.

Responsibilities:

- Generate ideas / source transactions for clients given industry knowledge and experience and capital markets expertise
- Develop new client relationships / enhance existing relationships
- Develop and pitch ideas to clients to augment client relationships and obtain transaction mandates.
- Execute transaction mandates.
- Significant travel requirements, primarily in North America, but also internationally.

Essential Functions:
- Develop and foster relationships with clients.
- Increase penetration of existing clients by providing products and services that are not exclusively balance sheet centric.
- Deliver all of SMBC’s products and skills to existing client base.

Qualifications:

Required education and licenses:
- Relevant undergraduate degree and MBA; alternatively relevant undergraduate degree and significant industry experience.
- Series 79 and 63 licenses required.

Required work experience:
- Investment Banking background with 5-10 years of prior relevant experience.
- Extensive experience in financial modelling and analysis of strategic and corporate finance transactions
- Completion of investment banking training program, preferably at large investment bank.

Required skills:
- Understanding of capital markets (public equity, private equity, investment grade debt, sub-investment grade debt and private debt) and capital markets transactions.
- Understanding of M&A, restructuring and capital raising dynamics and transactions.
- Track record of success and increasing responsibility.
- Knowledge and experience in the oil and gas sector

- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
- Ability to identify and marshal resources to lead teams through conception, analysis, pitching and execution of complex corporate finance transactions
- Ability to think creatively to solve complex problems
