Position Charter
The newly created role of Director, Dolby Cinema Global Implementation, will lead the team that oversees the construction, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of Dolby Cinemas globally.
Working in close collaboration with the cross functional Dolby Cinema sales and business teams, along with the Dolby Cinema design team, the Dolby Cinema engineering team, key partners, and the exhibitor’s architect and technical teams, to help enable the design, construction or upgrade cinemas to the high standards of the Dolby Cinema program.
The role will also be directly responsible for defining, managing and driving the tasks, schedules and budgets, to ensure projects are done to Dolby’s strict specifications, on time and on budget.
The individual for this role will be expected to have extensive experience in the process of designing and constructing cinemas, including an in-depth understanding of the audio and projection system technologies used in modern cinemas. In order to best be able to support our exhibitor partners, the ideal candidate will have worked for an exhibitor or technology vendor in this space, and have extensive cinema industry knowledge.
Scope And Responsibilities
Overall Dolby Cinema site management
Own the installation of the room from site survey to go live
Work with cross functional Dolby team and contractors to ensure equipment arrives to site
Identify any roadblocks and resolve them to meet schedule deadline
Define resource requirements against installation schedule
Define policy, process, and procedures for installations
Create installation report per location
Identify what worked, what needs improvement
Use reporting to hone installation process
Build overall site checklist
Master list that signals completion of room
Tracks all parts of the installation by completion date
Build global site installation team (Site Managers)
Create job descriptions
Hire and onboard
Manage team to defined KPI’s for Dolby Cinema program
Identify training gaps and close as soon as possible
Ensure training of the team remains current for all products
Including projection commissioning
Manage projector/audio commissioning
Working with CSG team to have appropriate resources available for the commissioning of the system (sound and projection).
Work with CSG to design projector installation training
Ensure training of the team remains current for the projection system
Managing installation subcontractors
Defining installation quality and quality metrics
Review SLAs and quality metrics with the sub contractor to identify and resolve issues on a per site basis
Ensure accountability of subcontractor
Ensure timelines are being met
Define installation requirements
Time frame
Support
Training
Management of Subcontracted Technical Support
Review SLAs and quality metrics on a quarterly basis
Identify issues and work with subcontractor to resolve
Act as interface with Dolby technical support for escalations
Ensure end customer is satisfied with service levels
Work with subcontractor on any performance gaps and correct
Managing shipment of 3rd party technical equipment
Ensure PO are cleared and there are no shipment holds
Work with Dolby AP team to ensure no shipment delays
Work with vendor accounting and shipping/logistics team
Ensure equipment arrives on site
Technical support interface
Support for CP850, Minnow, etc.
Training for technical sub contactors on Dolby Atmos system installation
Defining support requirements and interface between support sub contractor and Dolby CTS
Sales Operations/Manufacturing Interface
Positioning of emergency parts and systems
Shipment management – ensure there are no delays/issues getting Dolby product to site
KEY ATTRIBUTES And REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate must be growth-oriented and veteran of the cinema industry, with a strong technical and project management background in the cinema business. He or she should have established relationships and understanding of both the realities of the cinema business and Dolby’s history in that business.
He or she should have robust technical background, with an in depth knowledge of image technologies and digital projection systems for digital cinema. He/she should be a good team player and capable of working with diverse multi-functional teams, across different time zones around the world.
Critical Competencies for Success
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience with a comprehensive understanding of Digital Cinema equipment, including installation of: Digital Cinema Servers, Integrated Media Blocks (IMB), Cinema Audio Processors, 3D Cinema products, and Digital Cinema projectors.
An in depth knowledge of cinema design, acoustics, SMPTE and other relevant cinema standards
Extensive experience successfully managing complex projects, with multiple stakeholders both internal and external.
Minimum 10 years experience as a field engineer or similar technical role in the cinema industry.
Experience in both Windows, Mac and Linux based operating systems and application software programs.
A proven track record of working without supervision in the field and dealing professionally with cinema customers and vendors at all levels.
