Director - Business Development - PayPal - San Jose
Job description
The Director of Business Development-North America will be responsible for creating strategies and plans to capture new business in North America. This person will lead the identification, development and execution of strategic revenue-producing partnerships, particularly in industries that PayPal has not yet explored.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Build a portfolio of business development opportunities with untapped industry merchants/service providers, platforms.
• Drive the global relationship value proposition with such merchants.
• Assess existing touch points and relationships, decide how to leverage them.
• Own all aspects of the deal, including sourcing, qualification, initial rationale/pitch, financial modeling, due diligence and closing & integration activities.
• Coordinate across cross-functional teams within PayPal as well as serve as a primary point of contact with key prospects and partners.
• Support leadership on existing business development opportunities.
• Support the global corporate development team with specific opportunities.
• Identify, hunt and drive the largest, most strategic opportunities in North America.
key external strategic partners and within the payments ecosystem.
• Aggressively pursue PayPal’s 3 year strategic roadmap with relevant players in the global value chain.
• Mentor and train junior team members in solution selling.

• Leverage senior executive relationships to uncover strategic opportunities and alliances that extend PayPal’s businesses into new areas. Roadmap development and growth around validation of partnerships.
• Drive and articulate PayPal’s positioning with key external strategic partners and within the payments ecosystem.
• Aggressively pursue PayPal’s 3 year strategic roadmap with relevant players in the global value chain.
• Mentor and train junior team members in solution selling.
CANDIDATE BACKGROUND:
• A proven track record of success in forgoing impactful alliances and partnerships.
• A track record of success in leading complex deal negotiations.
• Demonstrated global business development experience and scope.
• Significant product and business development background.
• Strong relationship management track record with 12+ years’ experience.
• Knowledge of retail payments space or solution selling highly preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
