Senior Director - IT and Operations Strategy - Johnson & Johnson - Raritan


The role of Senior Director, IT and Operations Strategy will act as the global coordination point for three key area/functions – Enterprise IT Strategy, Enterprise Technology Operations Committee (ETOC), and IT Strategy Facilitator/Subject Matter Expert and work directly with the leadership of the Shared Services, GOC-CIOs and IT support functions. A key aspect of this role will be an unrelenting focus on elevating the IT strategy and operations discipline within IT by coordinating and facilitating Enterprise IT Strategy progress, successfully launching and executing the ETOC, overseeing strategic BUIT operations measurement, and providing IT strategy assistance to the Shared Services, GOCs and IT support functions. This role will focus on maximizing IT-enabled business value delivery through (but not limited to) IT strategy execution and process improvement, strategic BUIT operations measurement, IT cost optimization and technology-enabled innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES (Essential Functions): Act as the global Enterprise IT Strategy Coordination Point; Monitor IT Strategy project progress against timelines and coordinating required involvement of Shared Services, GOCs and IT support functions as needed to meet established timelines; Coordinate and gather refreshes for the Enterprise IT Strategy on an ongoing basis (and formally on an annual basis) to continually shape key messages, ensure the IT strategy is kept top-of-mind and ‘evergreen’; key elements to be refreshed include – the Strategic IT Framework, IT Principles, IT Operating Model and Enterprise, Sector-lead, and Business Function Capabilities; Assemble (in conjunction with Corporate Communications) Enterprise IT Strategy updates to the appropriate governance bodies (e.g. ITLT, ETOC, FEA, EPMO), the broader IT organization and senior business management (on an as needed basis); - Facilitate the creation and ongoing maintenance of the Enterprise IT Strategy adoption and execution metrics (‘Enterprise IT Strategy Dashboard’) and report progress on a regular basis to the ETOC and IT Leadership Team (ITLT); Establish and facilitate an Enterprise IT Strategy Forum with representation from GOCs, Shared Services and IT support functions to share individual IT strategy successes, experiences and approaches.



Additionally, the incumbent will act as the global Enterprise Technology Operations Committee (ETOC) Coordination Point; Provide initial support for the launch of the ETOC; Facilitate and coordinate with ETOC members to confirm the committee charter/mandate and scope (e.g. responsibilities, decision authority, interactions, inputs/outputs, etc.), lay-out the required roles (e.g. leadership, participants, support structure, etc.), establish the meeting cadence/standing agenda and form committee goals for the year (e.g. operating policy, enterprise capability technology direction, vendor strategy, etc.); Facilitate the development of key metrics (quality, reliability and security) and the roll-up processes to evaluate the key metrics; Create reporting mechanisms to the ETOC members and other IT governance bodies (e.g. ITLT, FEA, EPMO, etc.); Provide ongoing support for the execution of the ETOC; Manage the meeting schedule, gathering relevant topics and content for meetings and rapidly incorporating and disseminating results and feedback; Work with the designated co-champions to develop their 2015 initial plans (business needs and ‘asks’), assisting in the prioritization/analysis of the input plan data and organizing the synthesis/ recommendation development for the ITLT; Support each meeting by keeping minutes and gathering regular updates to be provided to the ETOC members and other IT governance bodies (e.g. ITLT, FEA, EPMO, etc.) as required; Leverage involvement in the ETOC to establish and facilitate the development of a ‘strategic’ (or more advanced) set of business operations metrics. These strategic metrics will capture and report cost and performance information as it pertains to logical groupings of IT processes/activities within and across organizational (BUIT and Shared Services) boundaries. For example, cost to support the launch a new product, the expected cost for a specific type of Agile application 'sprint', total cost to upgrade a key platform, etc.



Additional responsibilities: Act as a global Enterprise IT Strategy Facilitator and Subject Matter Expert; Facilitate development of and alignment between the Enterprise IT and GOC-specific IT strategies by working directly with GOC CIOs and their designees as required; Provide IT strategy facilitation assistance and subject matter expertise to the Shared Services, GOCs and IT support functions to ensure their projects consider appropriate Enterprise IT strategy elements and perspectives; specific emphasis will be placed on achieving enterprise solution leverage, process optimization and business value identification; Harmonize and keep relevant the elements of the IT strategy planning process across the enterprise by gathering and sharing new and updated frameworks, templates and other assets; Build an awareness of external IT strategy market intelligence (e.g. industry best-practices and competitive positioning) to understand how J&J IT is positioned vis-à-vis its Enterprise IT strategy; report positioning to the ITLT.



DECISION-MAKING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING: Scope and Scale of Position: Coordinates Enterprise IT Strategy, ETOC and provides IT strategy expertise and facilitation on a global basis. Relationship Management: Partners collaboratively with Head of AS, GOC CIOs and key technical, process and functional leaders across IT.

DEGREE OF INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: This position requires a high degree of IT strategy subject matter expertise/experience and independent judgment. The incumbent is expected to operate based on general guidance from the ETOC and ITLT members regarding priorities and imperatives. Expected to execute this position to deliver against commitments, escalating issues on an exception basis.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required. Advanced degree highly preferred. A minimum of 20 years of overall IT experience is required, with leadership experience in information technology within a large scale, global organization required. Experience creating and executing global IT strategy and transformation in a complex technology and large scale healthcare environments are required. Prior experience in creating and the ongoing maintenance of the Enterprise IT strategy adoption is required. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively with IT peer and partner IT organizations as well as with third-party IT service provider organizations is required. Prior experience and ability to demonstrate accomplishments on maximizing IT-enabled business value delivery through strategic business operations measurement, enterprise solution leverage, cost optimization and technology-enabled innovation are required. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate across all management and organizational levels are required. Exceptional leadership, networking, and influencing skills to create alignment of senior global cross-functional, cross sector stakeholders are required. Travel as needed is required.
