Director - Specialty Collaborations and Strategy - Biogen - Cambridge


Job Description
Summary:
The Specialty Marketing Unit is a multi-therapeutic global marketing team established to focus on commercialization of medicines meeting highly specialized unmet medical needs. This role will work to build and maintain healthy and effective relationships with our external business partners for products partnered with organizations external to Biogen. A primary focus will be to lead commercial collaboration activities for the Biogen and Genentech. The role provides strategic marketing oversight for the strategic brand plan and marketing tactical plan and works with Genentech to optimize business performance of assets.
The role will also lead collaboration efforts with other external partners, such as SOBI for the Hemophilia brands, to ensure alignment throughout the IPP process, brand plan development and other cross functional department initiatives. In addition, working with specialty brand teams, this role will help to set the long-term strategic direction for the Specialty business at Biogen, assessing competitive landscape and determining risks and opportunities to the specialty business.

Responsibilities:

• Drive development and alignment of commercial input into Genentech/Roche brand strategies that are designed to optimize Rituxan and Gazyva. Assess strategic plans and gain alignment within Biogen and Genentech on key business issues that may impact short and longer term financial performance of the assets.
o Lead preparation and planning of commercial viewpoint for input at Joint Commercialization and Steering Committees.
o Partner, participate and provide strategic input on key issues throughout the annual brand planning process. Attend relevant business workshops and meetings with Genentech.
o Lead presentations to Biogen senior management and Program Team to ensure they are informed on key strategic issues and performance for Genentech anti-CD-20 assets, and are well prepared for senior level collaboration meetings.

• Manage day-to-day communications to achieve alignment of commercial view, between Biogen and external partners, for products in a partnered agreement with Biogen. The position manages coordination of 3M activities with counterparts at Sobi for the Hemophilia brands. Ensure coordination and adherence with operating principles and alignment for activities in the tactical plan, including LCM planning. Determine the interdependencies, mis-alignments and work with the Biogen brand team and Sobi to solve mis-alignments.
o Lead planning, development of agendas, minutes and coordinate presentations for the Joint Commercialization Committee meetings, weekly Commercialization Alignment meetings and monthly 3M alignment meetings.
o Prepare for presentations and meetings with Biogen leadership to provide updates on a regular basis with respect to applicable collaborations.

• Develop long-term strategies and plans for the specialty marketing unit, taking into consideration the competitive landscape. Develop strategies for specialty franchises (eg Hemophilia) considering the current brands on market and pipeline. Identify risks and opportunities to the business over the long-term planning horizon.

• Keep abreast of scientific data, background and competitive information in hematology, immunology and hemophilia. Build knowledge in new therapeutic areas as new assets enter the Specialty Marketing Unit.

• Manage an operating budget

• Uphold Biogen code of ethics and protects company by keeping information confidential.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 8-+ years of bio-pharma marketing experience, with demonstrated strategic and analytical skills.
• International experience and experience in managing commercial partnerships and co-promotions.
• Strong strategic thinking skills (bio-pharma)
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills
• Experience working with external collaborations
• Ability to lead in a matrix environment
• Able to influence without direct authority
• Strong communicator and presenter - able to represent commercial view to senior leadership
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Understanding of international markets and affiliate operations globally

Education

• Bachelors or international equivalent required
• MBA/Advanced Degree preferred
