Director - Category - Automotive - Amazon - Seattle
Job description
Amazon is looking for a dynamic, team-oriented, strategic thinker and savvy operator to be the Director/Category Leader of our fast growing US Automotive business. The Director of the Automotive Category will deliver a world-class customer experience and exceptional growth in sales and free cash flow by defining and executing a strategic vision for the Automotive business and leading a diverse team of strong performers to achieve these goals. He/she is responsible for the Automotive P&L and owns the creation of all operating plans including monthly, quarterly and annual plans.
The Category Leader is directly responsible for leading four distinct teams: Vendor Management, Inventory Management, Marketing, and the 3rd Party Seller business. As the leader of these teams, he/she is responsible for building strategic relationships with key vendor partners and third party platform sellers, terms negotiations, driving new selection additions, driving systematic improvements to inventory management, pricing optimization, content creation and optimization and identifying and championing new opportunities to grow the business and delight customers. Additionally, the category is responsible for building and maintaining an industry-leader Part Finder technology, which catalogs millions of automotive parts and helps customers efficiently navigate Amazon’s large and growing selection of automotive parts.
The best Category Leaders have a broad skill set including leadership development, analytical horsepower, excellent business judgment, strong vendor management and negotiations skills, deep curiosity about how things work, and a passion for creating a world class shopping experience for our customers. You must enjoy context-switching and operating at all levels of the organization from long range planning to SKU-level deep dives. You will work with vendors of all sizes – from global to local manufacturers – and must have the leadership presence and communication skills to represent amazon at all levels of these organizations. This position is also expected to provide leadership beyond the respective category - driving systems, process, and customer experience improvements that will benefit all categories across amazon.com. Industry experience is a plus but not required.
The ideal candidate will also be strong at hiring & developing people. He or she will be required to build and develop a team of leaders who can run smaller categories. He or she must be comfortable working with Chief Operating Officers, Presidents, or Vice Presidents of large, high profile vendors and suppliers in areas such as strategic planning and contract negotiations, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial, innovative, and excel at “thinking big,” while also recognizing the need to coordinate his or her team’s activities within the established structure of a large, fast-growing company.
