The Director of Biomarker Operations and Imaging will be a member of the Neuroscience Biomarkers team. This individual will be responsible for biomarker project management, which involves the implementation of imaging and peripheral biomarker testing in clinical studies. This incumbent will also supervise a team, responsible for the discovery and optimization, testing and validation, and clinical translation of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging probes closely related to Mood Disorder and Alzheimer’s Disease discovery & development projects. S/he will identify, evaluate, propose, prioritize, implement and manage collaborations with internal (Discovery Sciences, Neuroscience Discovery, Experimental Medicine, Clinical Development) and external collaborators (e.g. assay and sample banking CROs, radiochemistry, imaging facilities). S/he will supervise PET probe discovery efforts, and manage overall imaging and non-imaging biomarker project time lines, milestone deliveries and budget compliance, in sync with Mood and AD discovery, translation and development needs. The imaging and peripheral biomarkers are being developed for measuring target engagement, and for patient diagnosis, sub-typing, response prediction and measurement.
The Director of Biomarker Operations & Imaging will prioritize projects based on Disease Area needs, scientific soundness, and likelihood of timely implementation. This individual will provide input and results to Mood and AD biomarker experts within Janssen and its partners. S/he will provide results-oriented project management of all biomarker programs in connection with discovery projects (target engagement, response measurement), translation and clinical development.
A minimum of a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Biology with post-doctoral experience is required. A minimum of 8-12 years of relevant experience is required. Related working industry experience is strongly preferred. On-the-job experience with project and budget management, medicinal chemistry, radiochemistry, imaging biomarker development, preclinical and clinical validation, and application in drug discovery, translation and clinical development is required. Experience in collaboration management is required. Knowledge of regulatory requirements for the use of biomarkers in clinical development is required. The successful candidate should have demonstrated competence for team leadership and/or people management. Strong communication skills are required. Strong collaboration and influencing skills are required.
