Job description
Job Responsibilities
Execute the company’s vision and direct all aspects of the company’s technological development.
Maintain understanding and research of leading edge technologies and make determinations on the best technology to implement; help integrate them into FGPS’s product development.
Manage, mentor and motivate a development team to work as a highly effective organization that achieves results while ensuring operational reliability and capacity planning, through technical/architectural leadership and active liaising with the product team.
Be fully and closely engaged with product management and development operations to determine the best technical implementation methods and execution schedules and to ensure work is appropriately scoped, estimated, and planned.
Work closely with the other department heads and wider teams to develop world-class products and partner with the executive team to ensure overall business success including advising on technologies that may improve efficiency and effectiveness of internal processes.
Understand and comunicate departmental financial and resource needs, development schedules and progress reports regularly to the leadership team.
Actively participate as a member of the management team in planning, problem resolution, and review of department performance and strategy.
Direct and maintain relationships and negotiate contracts with key vendors.
Oversee the introduction and maintenance of a real time alert and monitoring infrastructure and manage the 24/7 support.
Supervise QA to ensure product features are built according to business requirements and ensure that any defects are appropriately addressed.
Create and manage process improvement projects to continuously improve how the company builds and deploys its products.
Desired Skills and Experience
Skills and Experience
6+ years software development and IT management experience.
Start-Up/small company experience preferred
Experience with the development of cloud based applications.
Proficient in use of Agile/Scrum development for rapid software development and reduced coding errors.
Experience with PHP web applications, JavaScript, MySQL.
Knowledge of Object Oriented Design, Design Patterns, modular software architecture, REST, MVC Framework, CHEF.
Experience managing complex technical challenges with a solution oriented approach to business and technical issues.
Hands-on approach to both managing the department as well as technical experience driving systems architecture, looking at the big picture and how the design will fit into the corporate strategy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with clients and other team members.
Skilled in recruiting, motivating, retaining and organizing resources, as well as establishing priorities.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment with a confirmed ability to collaborate with all parts of the business.
Strong intuition, resourcefulness and the ability to produce results and make decisions with limited resources, through an entrepreneurial mindset.
Experience with Dev Ops preferred.
Active participant in the NY Tech Community who incorporates what they learn into their work.
Experience sourcing and managing developers, vendors and internal resources supporting all firmware, software, hardware, networks, and applications.
Budget experience and proven history in driving down operating costs while improving efficiency.
