Managing Director - Hankey Investment Company - Los Angeles


Job description
Hankey Investment Company (“HIC”) is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to lead its commercial real estate lending business.

As Managing Director, the candidate will lead and be responsible for all aspects of the business, including growth strategies, originations, credit processes, loan servicing, portfolio management, attracting / retaining top notch talent and long-term growth.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership – Accountable for leadership of entire lending process – from sourcing through loan repayments. Identify and hire top talent as the business grows – developing effective pay plans to retain top producers. Establish an exemplary presence both internally and externally – viewed as a market leader and top producer.


Originations – Develop strategies and tactics for dynamic growth of loan originations with existing clientele and new customer relationships. Build multiple new channels for sourcing deals. Marshal all available resources to grow current portfolio with safe and high quality CRE loans. Maintain an established market presence and extensive network of potential customers and referral sources. Lead all marketing activities and interface with mortgage brokers, borrowers, real estate brokers and attorneys.

Underwriting – Enhance and improve existing underwriting policies, procedures and practices. Establish a higher standard – using institutional underwriting processes and standards. Lead structuring of CRE loans – especially short-term bridge and construction loans. Utilize a detailed financial modeling approach to underwriting deals. Simplify process to focus on the critical risk factors – speeding process and ensuring high credit quality of loans. Visit and evaluate each project or site and provide credible analysis of collateral, neighborhood and general market conditions and feasibility.

Portfolio Management – Provide leadership and guidance for the management of large real estate loan portfolio – including concentration risk management, portfolio rollover, interest rate hedging, etc. Develop detailed, frequent and on-going portfolio reports for senior management.

REPORTING

Managing Director will report to HIC President. The MD will also lead and supervise one or more CRE underwriters

Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree from top school. Finance or Accounting degree preferred. MBA a plus.
Requires a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the real estate lending industry including performing financial analysis for commercial office, industrial, apartments, residential and/or retail space.
Formal bank credit training preferred, but not required
Proven track record of excellent leadership, strong collaboration and communication skills
