Director - Online - The Daily Herald - Provo


Job description
The Daily Herald is seeking a full-time Online Director to direct, coordinate and implement digital strategies to grow audience and engagement of local news and information across all digital platforms. Works with news organization to ensure our audience receives the best local, relevant, interesting and timely content from us, no matter where or how they get it. The Online Director is a member of the management team reporting directly to the Publisher.

Job Responsibilities
Works with news organization to deliver immediate and useful local news to our customers’ fingertips as soon as possible on multi-platform stories and features to improve cross usage and news engagement.
Works with news gatherers during story development in relation to how stories should be reported, information that needs to be gathered, assets that can tell stories in digital formats.
Monitor analytics and use as a tool in prioritizing and planning newsroom coverage.

Using a combination of quantitative analysis and your own understanding of the market, determine areas where our newsroom can produce content readers can’t find anywhere else. If possible, expand resources to those areas.
Review digital presentations throughout the day to ensure accuracy, readability, timeliness.
Develops and coordinates news gatherers and editors on key digital skills.
Coordinates the use of social media for breaking news and increased engagement.
Works with director of audience to develop marketing programs to attract new digital and print audiences.
Works with news and marketing on the development and launch of new content differentiated by audience, platform and subject matter. Development of corresponding websites if the business case shows it as profitable and grows audience and audience engagement.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages direct reports in new online and circulation sales departments. Creates a department atmosphere that encourages staff to develop their fullest potential and gain a sense of job satisfaction.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of five years experience in marketing or equivalent experience.
Understanding of online service and news capabilities to drive audience.
Understanding of news content process.
