Senior Director - Corporate Communications and PR - Blurb - San Francisco


Job description
Blurb is looking for a brilliant communications leader and go-getter to nurture and craft the stories we share with the world.

The Director of Global communications will be responsible for the external communication needs across the company, including product launches, executive presentations to analysts and bankers, as well as press/media stories and press releases that drive awareness and ultimately customer acquisition.

This is a full-time position and will report to the Chief Marketing Officer. The position is located onsite at our San Francisco headquarters.

As Senior Director of Corporate Communications & PR, you will be responsible for
Developing a corporate communications and PR plan - working closely with the entire Blurb executive team – in particular our CEO, CMO and CPO- on the stories Blurb should tell.
Exercise your longstanding relationships with the tech and business media/press, as well as build out new media relationships in support of Blurb’s business segments in order to position Blurb as a ‘reference company’ for key journalists and bloggers writing about our industry

Directing & managing our agencies overseas to ensure relevant media coverage across all our key markets
Taking story ideas from concept to launch – creating themes that can play through PR, executive keynotes, and able to personally pen a fantastic press release, executive key note, etc
Develop media materials including press releases, fact sheets, customer testimonials, contributed articles, speaking abstracts, etc.

Desired Skills and Experience

You have Director level experience at an internet/technology company, accountable for all press and corporate communications and have managed the press-side of multiple product launches
You have strong critical thinking skills that will help us clarify our positioning messages and lift us above the fray
You’ve directed and been accountable for global PR agencies and their results
You’re an infinitely curious and skilled story rainmaker – able to actively uncover stories that are fascinating to wider audiences. You don’t wait for someone to hand you the completed messaging document.
You are a prolific idea person coming up frequently with tag lines, headlines, story ideas - but you're also a tenacious finisher – you take the ideas all the way to the finish line.
You are a natural writer, able to personally pen op-eds and executive key notes, you may have done more than one stint as a journalist.
You have outstanding and long standing relationships with tech press and business press.
You have exceptional project management skills and attention to detail - you're used to working frequently with the C-suite on high profile projects and tight deadlines.
You’re a voracious reader, up to date on all of the latest moves in technology and the world in general. You always catch interesting things before your friends.
Strangely, you're also a data nerd, you love tracking progress and measuring results.
You’re scrappy from your time at small companies, but you're also deft at navigating within a company of 100+ people.
