Director - Transportation Capacity Management - Procurement - PepsiCo - Plano


Job description
Responsibility for multi modal transportation capacity management and procurement with global spends in excess of $3.5 billion. Direct dealings with country transportation teams with the procured truckload, LTL, domestic ocean, bulk railroad and expedite requirements. Currently utilize over 2500 transportation providers, across 25 procurement events, delivering $50 - $60 MM of productivity on an annual basis. The role requires a strong focus on premier customer service, ongoing capacity and better than market transportation pricing.


The Capacity Management / Procurement Director is responsible for the delivering of common transportation capacity management strategies, procurement strategies and processes across all global sectors and business units. Criti`cal components of this role include:
Subject matter expert (SME) for global transportation carrier capacity management model to share and assist in implementation of best practice sharing across business units.
Lead carrier capacity procurement events across all modes of transportation (Truckload, LTL, Intermodal, Rail, and Ocean). This would require managing / directing 25+ annual events against a spend of $2.5 - $3.5 billion annually
Balance the work between internal / external resources to execute transportation bid events and analytical support.
Develop and lead analytical based decisions that meet each markets industry and business needs to deliver annual productivity and service goals
Influence Sr. Leaders across all business sectors to gain alignment and approval for carrier procurement strategies and capacity development that will drive productivity and service goals.
Working closely with Global logistics team and transportation providers on the strategic elements that ensure short and long term transportation goals.

The position will be part of the PepsiCo Global Horizontal Logistics Team / Transportation COE and report directly to the Sr. Director - PepsiCo Global Logistics Capacity Management

Key Responsibilities:
* Set core strategies for key procurement events in US and Globally.
* Lead analytics of capacity management strategies.
* Provide leadership and effectiveness in procurement strategy development and execution
* Collaborative background with Shipper population
* Strong analytical, negotiating and collaborative skills
* Must be able to work and be effective with minimal staff and possess collaborative/influence skills that will enable results across organizations/teams
* Implement procurement strategy for International, TL, Rail, Domestic Ocean, LTL, Expedite across business units and segments.
* Develop scalable, standardized cross divisional/sector business strategy and processes
* Develop team to solve strategic and tactical transportation operational issues.
* Lead the joint annual and supplement procurement events across PepsiCo.
* Ensure effective coordination between the business team and internal as well as external providers to solve procurement strategy and goals.
* Ensure cross divisional reporting requirements are defined and implemented to support new business processes.
* Ensure commonality and synergy in strategic transportation procurement and capacity development across PepsiCo
* Lead and develop direct reports.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Bachelors degree
5-7 years of transportation and staff management experience.
3-5 years of detailed experience with transportation procurement processes and systems.
Experience leading development of new strategies and implementing them across areas of influence

Additional Job Qualifications:

10+ years of carrier operations and procurement
Proven leader of a Truckload Carrier, and/or 3rd Party Logistics Provider
Background in transportation across all modes with focus on truckload sector
International transportation, LTL and Rail experience is critical
Strong connections and relations with TL, LTL, and rail transportation providers
In depth knowledge of transportation landscape and implication to business world
Team leadership and effectiveness in procurement strategy development and execution
Collaborative background with Shipper population
Strong analytical, negotiating and collaborative skills
Ability to lead and influence a multiple business unit organization that has functional goals that may not align perfectly with corporate goals
Ability to quickly analyze/determine appropriate mode trade-offs between
company fleet, dedicated fleets and point to point carrier
Organizational change management experience
Presentation skills
