Director - Quality - Eaton - Moon Township


Job Description
The quality director is the leader of the quality function for the Electrical Systems & Services Group. Key contributor in the development and deployment of the functional strategy in alignment with the annual profit plan and higher level business and functional strategies. Establishes strong customer relationships and advocates for the customer within the organization. Prevents defects from getting to the customer. Champion and oversee the effective implementation of the organization’s Quality Management System / Eaton Quality System. Builds organizational capability by identifying and developing functional and leadership talent. Accountable for delivering functional performance results at the ESSG level of measurement to improve customer satisfaction and cost.

Essential Functions:
- Manages the customer interface to ensure that quality requirements which impact multiple sites are understood and met by all plants. Ensures a process is in place and effectively managed to resolve customer concerns. Ensures there is a process for plant quality managers to regularly engage with customers to drive continuous improvement in satisfaction measures (e.g. as represented in CRR, customer surveys / scorecards, warranty). Has the ability to work in collaboration with others as part of a team but will confront, challenge, question, and be unreasonable when required to prevent defects from reaching the customer.

- Regularly communicates and demonstrates the Eaton ethics, values and philosophy such that these cultural attributes are incorporated throughout the organization. Fosters an environment that promotes Eaton’s goals and philosophy, encourages continuous improvement, and builds customer relationships.

- Builds organizational capability across the quality function and is designated as the functional manager within APEX for all plant quality managers. Ensures deployment of Eaton’s Quality Functional Excellence tool set and provides input into development plans of plant quality managers. Identifies and develops functional and leadership talent. Conducts talent reviews within home organization and provides input to the parent organization functional OCA. Ensures development opportunities for emerging talent in coordination with Regional level leadership.

- Coordinates training strategies and plans for quality processes and tools leveraging EBS resources for execution of training plans. Ensures deployment of quality programs and higher level initiatives.

- Drives the principles of a performance-based organization. Analyzes quality performance, sets the goals for all quality metrics across multiple sites, and cascades goal setting from parent organization to the plants. Performs managerial reviews to evaluate results and establishes action plans to close gaps.

- Responsible for developing strategies that align with the business and functional strategic plans and deploy strategies across multiple sites.

- Ensures that the implementation and improvement of the Quality Management System is effectively managed to foster a culture of customer focus and continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with internal and external requirements. Regularly coordinates knowledge and best practice sharing across sites. Serves as a thought leader for next generation functional requirements and participates in enterprise forums and teams to improve the Quality System.

- Owns the Group level Quality Escape Management Process in alignment with the Corporate Quality Escape Alert and Review Process. Ensures timely escalation / communication of Customer Quality Escapes and coordinates with appropriate functional and business leaders to ensure appropriate actions are undertaken with the utmost urgency. Provides support to the issue as appropriate..

- Actively works with all appropriate levels of the Supply Chain / Supplier Development organization to ensure quality of purchased products and services meets Eaton requirements.
Takes an active role in PROLaunch decision gates to ensure flawless product and/or process launches. Has responsibility to ensure that quality deliverables are completed according to standard per the pre-gate functional review process. In addition, PROLaunch Functional program champion - Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) is to be performed by locations providing critical components, assemblies or processes.

- Develops, implements, and manages a product warranty system that captures and provides feedback to responsible groups in the businesses and assures ownership and permanent corrective action to support the delivery of quality products that enhance customer satisfaction.

Specialized Knowledge:

- Analytical/Statistical Tools & Methods – the knowledge of a wide range of problem solving tools and methods including statistics, combined with the ability to select and apply them to make data based decisions to sustain higher levels of process or product quality.

- External Requirements - The competency knowledge, practice and application of the Product/Process and Quality System standards of the International Certification Bodies, Industry specific Regulatory Authorities and Customers contractually specified Quality Requirements.

- Inspection & Testing - The ability to use proven tools, techniques, and methodologies to inspect products, measure process performance, perform product verification and validation testing, and to provide feedback reporting as required. This competency is utilized within the framework of the measurement, analysis and improvement aspects of the quality management system.

- Product/Process Quality Planning (Advanced Quality Planning; AQP) is the ability to strategically define the Critical to Quality elements of a product/process, and the knowledge to effectively analyze, assess and mitigate the risks associated with any potential failures.

- Quality Leadership is the knowledge of quality management systems and support practices. This competency includes the ability to efficiently and effectively assess performance, set strategy aligned with the business and use metrics to drive continuous improvements.

Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
- 10 years of experience in operational and quality related management roles
- The ability to travel extensively
- Fluent in English

Preferred Qualifications:

- Plant management or divisional quality experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution preferred
- Program Management and new model launch experience is a plus
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred
- Ability to manage and negotiate with customers, suppliers, and regions/divisions/businesses
- Senior management level communication and presentation skills
- Working understanding of how to adapt communication style to fit different cultures
