Director - Grants Development & Administration - Parkview Health - Fort Wayne


Job description
Summary - The Director is responsible for the grants development and administrative functions across the Parkview Health System. As such, the Director is responsible for a wide-range of activities that provide the framework for the grants office including grants research, writing, submission and administration, as well as co-worker education on the grants process. Includes government reporting as required. This includes having collaborative working relationships with various departments, leaders and constituencies within the system, as well as external funders. The Director reports to the Foundations President and works with this person to develop and implement both strategic and annual grant planning for the Foundations and Health System.

Key Outcomes and other duties as assigned:

Growth: In collaboration with the Foundations President, the Director will develop and promote grantseeking priorities and ensure that the priorities are integrated with system's and Foundation's strategic planning goals. The Director will identify funding resources and make decisions with leaders on which grants will be pursued by the system, provide leadership for and implement an aggressive grants development agenda for the system, and coordinate an annual calendar of system grant activities.
Responsible for updating senior leaders on the progress of grant projects, provides updates regarding grants management changes at the local, state or federal level. Sets goals for stakeholders within the organization so that those taking on grants projects understand their obligations for grants development and post-award administration. Directs the preparation of complex and varied grant proposals that support the goals of the hospitals and health system. Develops and maintains systems and procedures to ensure the accuracy, validity and timeliness of grants submitted. Edits grant proposals for clarity, accuracy and strategic approach. Responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of grants submitted to government agencies and foundations, including adherence to relevant federal, state and local regulations. Manages post-award oversight of grants and grant implementation in partnership with the awarded department’s leaders and finance. Trains staff to carry out the day-to-day responsibilities of grant management and how to assemble required reports to funders. Serves as lead internal consultant to the Foundations President and health system leadership regarding changes in the grants landscape and how trends will affect grant seeking, pre-award and post-award activities.
Resources - Responsible for generating financial resources for Parkview projects. Adheres to budget/expense targets; effectively utilizes staff, consultants and business associates within the grants office. Directs the preparation of reports on the system's grant development activities for Boards of Directors, Chief Executives or other senior leaders.

Safety & Quality - Adheres to the Parkview Health Confidentiality Policy which includes oral, written, computer generated, computer accessed, filmed, and recorded information related to patients, their families and visitors, physicians, and clients. Responsible for the protection of confidential data at all times. The Director works with other Foundation and health system staff in order to maintain the quality and accuracy of the Foundation's donor database and the grants database.

Collaborates and coordinates with other departments or institutions as needed to develop competitive grant proposals. This may also involve the supervision of sub-grantee projects and budgets. Develops and maintains systems and procedures to ensure various leaders across the health system are aware of grant opportunities, processes and awards. This includes regular communication with senior leaders as well as the development and implementation of training opportunities for staff to learn grant seeking, grant writing and grant management skills. Provides technical expertise to grant project directors, and other internal departments such as legal and finance on grant-related matters.

Desired Skills and Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Grant Professionals Certification (GPC), Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) and/or Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) desirable.

Experience: Minimum of seven years relevant experience as a senior fundraising officer or grants officer with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in raising and stewarding gifts from private foundations and public funders including family, corporate or community foundations as well as government agencies or entities. Demonstrated experience managing fundraising programs with specific experience in the areas of grants research, writing, submission and administration practices, preferably in a multiple-hospital health system, medical center, institution of higher education or a large charitable organization. Experience with donor database and grants management software is highly desired, experience with Raiser's Edge and/or Amplifund a plus.

Other Qualifications: Must be familiar with federal funding regulations and allowable cost principles. Must have good oral presentation and written communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to think and plan strategically; and to lead, manage, mentor and motivate staff. Demonstrates outstanding writing skills and has the ability to develop persuasive proposals. Candidate should also exhibit strong attention to detail and logistics. Must demonstrate ability to work nights and weekends as needed to meet deadlines.
