Director - Finance - Big Joe Handling Systems - San Francisco


Job description
Under the supervision of the CEO, this person is responsible to direct the financial affairs of the organization and prepare financial analyses of operations, including interim and final historical financial statements with supporting schedules, as well as financial and cashflow projections, for the guidance of management. The Director of Finance is responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, the preparation of financial reports, tracking and managing performance to expectations, preparing budgets, reforecasts and other financial models, management of gross margins, integration of acquired entities and books of business and other responsibilities.
The position is a hand’s on role and also involves supervision over a small staff to provide general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary & Inventory controls.

Essential Functions:
* Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
* Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department. This individual recommends training requirements, has the duty to keep the staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives, and may recommend that personnel be hired or removed from the Department.
* Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
* Coordinate and manage accurate Inventory.
* Establishes major economic objectives and policies for the company and prepares reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
* Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures, and analyzes and reports variances.
* Is responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes.
* Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports as necessary.
* Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.
* Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
* Has final responsibility for providing effective financial controls for the organization.
* Is capable of executing strategic objectives and maintaining internal controls as the company changes and grows.
* Provides management with real time and accurate cash flow reporting.
* Is a proactive leader and thinker, anticipating and providing solutions to issues and capturing opportunities.
* Other items as necessary.

Desired Skills and Experience
Experience Required:

BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related major
5+ years of experience in financial and accounting management
2+ years of experience in insurance brokerage financial and accounting management
Demonstrated experience and ability to use Applied Systems Agency Management and Accounting System software
Excellent computer skills
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
