Director - Enterprise Architecture - Columbia University Information Technology - New York
Job description
Reporting to the Associate VP & Chief Technologist, the Director, Enterprise Architecture will lead the overall design and development of the University wide enterprise architecture capability that will provide the foundation for mission critical technology that supports over 40,000 faculty, staff and students. This individual will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining key relationships with senior business and information technology stakeholders within Columbia University Information Technology and across departments and schools of Columbia University. The Director, Enterprise Architecture will provide technical leadership and participate in the Enterprise Architecture vision development while at the same time playing a hands-on role in the execution and implementation of that vision.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the development and maturation of a nascent enterprise architecture capability, through processes and deliverables based on the TOGAF architecture development method and content framework.
- Partners with the CTO to provide technical leadership to functional and technical leaders to define and translate business strategies into technical vision utilizing the TOGAF industry-standard enterprise architecture framework; assists in operationalizing that vision.
- Leads a diverse team of segment and solution architects.
- Collaborates with functional and technical teams to develop plans that guide the business to a future state model through the creation and execution of business and technology strategy roadmaps.
- Leads and drives the research, development and prototyping of innovative technologies and solutions, with a particular focus to add significant value to the University mission through measurable outcomes.
- Performs research on relevant technology trends, technical tools and platforms and emerging/evolving software and services.
- Directs the development and execution of a communication (including education) plan for the enterprise architecture capability and its benefits.
- Identifies organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the enterprise architecture.
- Weekend and off-hour work may be necessary on occasion.
- All other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Advanced degree desirable.
- Minimum 7-9 years' related experience.
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
- 5+ years' experience in information architecture and management.
- A thoughtful leader with a collaborative leadership style and can-do attitude.
- Experience with business, data, application and technology architecture, include SOA, SaaS offerings, design and implementation of large scale, enterprise-level projects.
- Demonstrated strategic planning, leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to mentor, develop and inspire Information Technology professionals, approachable and collaborative, open to feedback.
- Excellent communication, presentation and self-motivation skills.
- Must feel comfortable working in a dynamic and flexible environment with changing requirements.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- TOGAF, ArchiMate and/or Open Group Certified Architect Level 2 or higher.
- Experience with Converged Infrastructure, VMWare, Puppet, DevOps, cloud services and application development.
- Deep experience in one or more of application, data or business architecture.
