Director - Business Process - Biogen Idec - Cambridge


Job description
The Business Process (BP) Lead in Development Sciences (Dev. Sci.) Planning and Operations will be a process design expert for Dev Sci. and GXP Research functions and will partner with Process Owners, Sub-Process Owners, and business leaders and Strategic Vendor Partners on cross-functional process design, process mapping and implementation of new processes using innovative and effective methodologies. This position is responsible for oversight and administration of the Dev. Sci. Business Process Owner Network (PON). The Process Lead will also provide assistance in the development of performance metrics used to monitor process health and drive continuous process improvement. They will ensure adherence to Biogen Idec’s Quality Standards and Regulatory compliance of Dev Sci. and GXP Research processes via the review and approval process. The Business Process Lead will source, establish, and be an expert power-user the GXP-compliant and validated Business Process Mapping System (BPMS). They will be a change-agent and leader within Dev Sci. encouraging and mentoring others in adopting process ownership and process excellence methodologies. The Business Process Lead will also provide indirect management and/or synchronized execution of work within the Business Process Excellence and Learning groups, including change control, change management, training and communication in coordination with Process, Sub-Process Owners and business leaders. This person will proactively assist in identifying process-level risks and issues and advise on mitigation plans, as needed, to ensure and improve process operational performance.

Additional Responsibilities:
• As a process design expert for Dev Sci. and GXP Research functions, partner with Process Owners, Sub-Process Owners, and business leaders on cross-functional process design, process mapping and implementation of new processes using innovative and effective methodologies. Utilize innovative process improvement tools and methodologies (e.g. QbD, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) to define activities and tasks in line with business objectives. This individual will oversee administration of the Dev. Sci. Business Process Owner Network to ensure functional area alignment with centralized process management governance
• Source, establish, and be an expert power-user the GXP-compliant and validated Business Process Mapping System (BPMS). Be a change-agent and leader within Dev Sci, encouraging and mentoring others in adopting process ownership and process excellence methodologies
• Work with Sub-process Owners and Process Owners to develop key metrics for each process to monitor process health and drive continuous process improvement. Ensure Regulatory compliance of Dev Sci and GXP Research processes via a comprehensive review and approval process
• Indirectly manage and/or synchronize execution of work within the Business Process Excellence and Learning groups, including change control, change management, training and communication in coordination with Process, Sub-Process Owners and business leaders. Support the development and maintenance of the Process Owner Network framework and infrastructure
• Identify process-level risks, escalate issues and advise on risk mitigation plans. Obtain alignment within Business Process and communicate issues/mitigation plans to cross functional stakeholders or Process Owner Network governance as required

Qualifications

• 6-10 years relevant work experience
• Strong process design skills
• Clear understanding of business process integration principles; demonstrated ability to visualize process, data and IT systems integration
• Design, execution, and/or management of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology business processes
• Strong understanding of indicators that drive quality and performance in clinical / R&D organization
• Strong understanding of operational indicators that drive performance in clinical organization
• Experience with tracking process performance, monitoring processes using dashboards and technologies
• High attention to detail including proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
• Problem solver with strong proficiency in data analysis

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in a biology / chemistry related field and/or MBA preferred. Six Sigma experience (green, yellow or black belt) preferred.
