Director - Strategy & Analytics - Redbox - Chicago
Job description
Strategy & Analytics is the central strategy team for the Redbox line of business, responsible for using structured problem solving and analytics to influence Redbox’s major decisions and drive profitable growth. We are a small and highly collaborative team of professionals with prior experience in management consulting, market research, and data analytics. We collaborate on projects with a wide range of functional teams (Marketing, Content Acquisition, Operations, etc.). Redbox’s main office is in Oakbrook Terrace, IL, but team members usually work in our satellite office in Downtown Chicago 1-2 days per week.
The Role
The Director role offers the intellectual challenge, talented team, and project variety often associated with consulting work; along with the opportunity to see the implementation of your analysis. Our projects support Redbox’s key strategic and growth initiatives and involve internal data analysis, consumer research, market tests, predictive analytics, and financial modeling. The audience for the team’s work includes the Redbox and Outerwall Leadership Team, the Board of Directors, as well as, key external partners including studios and retailers.
Recent Examples of Team Projects
Network Strategy: Developed and executed optimization model and strategy to maximize profitability of Redbox’s 40,000+ kiosk network
Pricing Strategy: Conducted a market test to determine pricing elasticity of Redbox’s product offerings and collaborated with large cross-functional team to test and roll-out price changes
New Business Expansion: Performed consumer research, in-market studies and retail landscape evaluation to support the expansion of Redbox in Canada
Merchandising Analytics: Developed predictive models to improve product placement across the life cycle of a title.
Requirements for Success
Delivering value to the organization
Lead a team of Strategy Analysts to conduct rigorous, fact-based research and analysis that result in actionable recommendations and impactful results
Set the vision and objectives for strategy projects, provide daily guidance for project teams
Communicate effectively and persuasively with senior management and internal partners utilizing fact based analysis to influence organizational decisions
Participate in cross-functional teams and build relationships with partners include Marketing, Sales, Content Acquisition, Operations, and Executive Leadership
Setting the standard for analysis and generate demand for the team
Develop a deep understanding of the economics and operations of the Redbox business, earning a reputation as a valued contributor and being sought as a key partner to the Redbox leadership team.
Set and maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and relevance for the S&A team and for the broader Redbox organization. Act as the keeper of the team’s analytical credibility and reputation.
Leading on the Strategy & Analytics team
Contribute effectively to the S&A leadership team for prioritizing projects and allocating resources to maximize the impact of the team.
Develop and mentor high-potential team members as future business leaders for Redbox.
Desired Skills and Experience
Prior Experience
7+ years of experience in a management consulting or comparable environment. Must include leading teams and extensive executive contact. Experience with retail, consumer products, or entertainment/media is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree and MBA with a strong academic record. Clear evidence of analytical, problem solving, and strong logical thinking skills.
Experience leading multiple high profile projects with demanding deadlines, changing requirements, and working with limited resources.
Experience as a leader of analytical project work, including financial and sensitivity models, market tests, data modeling, statistical analysis.
