Job description
The successful candidate will bring a demonstrated background in lean manufacturing, productivity, and metric goal setting and achievement while having strong leadership skills and the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
Job Purpose:
Oversees management of plant operations and logistics in the most cost effective manner and within quality standards. Responsible for achieving optimum labor and least amount of overhead and costs. Oversees production department to attain maximum efficiency. Ensures logistics function is operating at levels which meet internal and external customers' needs and established financial benchmarks. Formulates and recommends production policies, process, and programs which guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation. Directs activities so that commodities are processed on schedule efficiently, safely, and within quality standards and cost objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner with supervisory staff, managers, and senior staff members in the development, formulation, and implementation of the Company’s long and short-range strategies and initiatives, including process, planning, policies, programs and objectives.
Develop process and establish and implement procedures for maintaining high standards of production operations to ensure that commodities conform to established customer and company quality standards.
Achieve optimum employee levels responsibly and with minimal impact to overhead and costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
Formulate and recommend production policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
Develop, direct and monitor department managers to accomplish production goals, consistent with established process and safety procedures. Act as liaison between department management/subordinate levels, as well as, executive/department manager levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce and/or avoid costs, monitor and rework. Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.
Direct and coordinate various programs essential to production procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
Initiate and coordinate major projects, (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
Vendor relations, including negotiating equipment purchase and maintenance.
Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
Ensures standards for product quality, equipment, and operator performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize production. Ensures fixed assets are preserved. Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant property.
Develops, monitors, and reports on operating costs within functional areas. Alerts management of cost and labor over run in a timely manner. Makes recommendations and implements solutions to problems related to same.
Partners with Human Resources on labor issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, grievances and the like. Assists in ensuring plant managers and supervisors are adhering to company policy and administering practices in fair and equitable manner.
Manages budget and controls expenses responsibly. Presents budget periodically to Senior Management and has the ability to identify and effectively communicate root causes of any variances.
Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Safety Record. DART and TRIR rate beneath industry standard.
Meeting fiscal plan targets.
Successful establishment and development of production process and effective teams.
Low levels of production errors and waste.
Quality Claim Incident Rate.
Plant Down Time Hours.
Customer service indicator.
Delivery expectations on inbound and outbound freight are fulfilled.
Desired Skills and Experience
B.S. / B.A. is required (Business, Engineering, or Industrial Technology Management). M.S. in Finance in addition is also desired.
10 years of experience of production management experience is required with three to five years in a senior management role.
Demonstrated financial, process management, and team leadership is required.
Must be PC proficient.
