Director - Technical Accounting - Warner Bros. Entertainment - Burbank
Job description
We are currently seeking a Director, Technical Accounting to join the Corporate Financial Policies and Practices group. This position will serve as the subject matter expert on US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and will work with various business finance teams to assess the accounting implications of key business initiatives. The position will be responsible for the accounting analysis of complex, material transactions and arrangements including but not limited to strategic partnerships, film financings, licensing arrangements and M&A deals. The position will promote consistency in the treatment of accounting transactions across the Warner Bros. organization via the harmonization of policy. This position will interact with all levels of the organization and will serve as a valuable resource for corporate and business unit colleagues.
The Director, Technical Accounting will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
• Transaction Review
o Assist business units to define the appropriate accounting treatment for non-routine business activities.
o Critically analyze agreements and deal structures to ensure they align with the intended business objective.
o Research and document accounting conclusions and lead the accounting review of deals and agreements with Corporate Finance executives, Time Warner Finance and external auditors as needed.
• Policies, Practices and Accounting Guidance
o Promote consistency in the treatment of accounting transactions across the Warner Bros. organization.
o Interpret external accounting rules and regulations.
o Provide expert guidance in accounting policy matters.
• Special Projects
o Establish master data guidance and serve as governance lead.
o Maintain and update Chart of Account definitions.
o Provide Corporate Finance research, analysis and approval support for legal entity structures.
Desired Skills and Experience
Desirable candidates will have the following qualifications:
• CPA (active status) required.
• BA/BS in Accounting required. MBA preferred.
• Minimum10 years experience in accounting with experience in Big 4 public accounting required.
• Extensive technical accounting and SEC reporting experience required.
• Media & Entertainment industry experience required.
• M&A experience preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate discretion in the management of confidential information.
• Flexibility and willingness to work with both concepts and detail.
• Ability to travel as required.
