Director - Business Development - Innovation - Nike - Portland
Job description
As the Director, Business Development for Innovation, you will play an essential role in helping Nike build upon its rich history of delivering innovative performance product to the best athletes in the world. You will work directly with the senior leadership of Innovation and Nike executives to develop and execute the partnership strategy, leading the sourcing and evaluation of strategic third party relationships. You will also play a critical role in the overall strategy of Innovation, as a member of the Innovation Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Research, source, evaluate, and model partnership opportunities across Nike’s Innovation teams including, footwear, apparel, equipment, materials science, exploration, and athlete research
Work in collaboration with Global Strategy and Business Development on execution of partnership strategy
Develop and manage third party relationships across a network of potential partners including venture capital, private equity, investment banking, universities, entrepreneurs / start-ups, and established companies
Create and work to implement integration plans of partnerships into Nike matrix
Drive business case development, deal strategy and appropriate deal structures inclusive of joint development, joint venture, minority investments and acquisitions
Take on responsibility for managing internal strategic resources through deal process and external partners through working with Nike, which may be inclusive of taking on Board positions in third party companies
Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements for the position include:
Bachelor's degree
MBA or advanced degree is strongly preferred
Minimum 10 years' total experience in strategic planning, corporate development, business development, investment banking, management consulting, finance or related fields (2 additional years' experience in lieu of an advanced degree)
Experience working in corporate development / business development team strongly preferred
Extensive deal experience ranging across a wide array of deal structures and responsibilities on deals
Strong network across venture capital, private equity, investment banking, universities and entrepreneurs
Proven track record of successful development of business development strategy, and prioritizing, sourcing, managing, executing and integrating opportunities against strategy
Prior experience in innovation, manufacturing, product development, or related fields a strongly preferred
Proven ability to work well cross-functionally
Ability to lead virtual teams, manage complex projects and work in creative environments
Self-directed and comfortable working in ambiguous environments
Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis and develop financial models
Problem structuring and strategic problem solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once
Ability to pass a 7-year background investigation
