Director - People & Organization Development - Biogen Idec - Cambridge


Job description
The Director of People and Organization Development (POD) is responsible for the organizational and leadership effectiveness of his or her client organizations. Partnering with senior management and HR staff this role provides OD consulting, leadership development and talent management solutions to increase the effectiveness of leaders, managers and this growing organization. This role will be based in Massachusetts and have dual reporting to the VP, People and Organization Development and the VP HR for the client business.

Key Responsibilities include:

1. Organization Effectiveness Consulting
Develop the annual and multi-year plans for building functional excellence within the client organization
Work directly with the lead HRBP and top executive team to improve effectiveness and efficiency around goal setting, alignment and execution within the unit
Create the overall resourcing and implementation plan to execute on people and organizational effectiveness agenda
Oversee the OD work being done throughout the client organization – directly manage it or broker through subordinates or consultants

2. OD/Change Management
Provide change management support for significant business projects to further the transformation of the unit’s culture, increasing its ability to meet current and future business challenges
Translate the insights from organization and employee surveys into actions that have a significant impact on the unit’s performance and culture

3. Leadership Development
Consult with executive clients about the value and process of leadership development.
Ensure leadership capability is in place to allow the units to meet their critical business needs and attain their objectives – develop local initiatives and simultaneously align with corporate programs
Contribute to the design, development and promotion of corporate leadership development programs, processes, systems and tools. Implement these locally. These include:

Performance planning and assessment
Individual development planning
Biogen Idec’s “360°” feedback process
Coaching and career development
Leadership and management training curriculum

4. Talent Management
Support client organizations in executing the Organization and HR Planning process (OHRP)
Consult on performance planning, individual development plans and assessment.
Work closely with executives to identify and support high potential talent
Coach and support the HR Business Partners in the client organization as they gain greater capability in talent management, systems and processes

Qualifications
•Ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse “customer” base, including senior managers, HR Business Partners, consultants, etc.
•Strong results-orientation and commitment to quality and performance
•Proven ability to balance the need for global consistency with local customization
•Ten to fifteen years’ experience in progressively responsible roles in OD, leadership and management development, working for relevant “best practice” companies
•Business maturity and interpersonal “savvy” to work with both senior managers and line employees
•Proven ability to achieve results by working with a global team

Education
Advanced degree in Management or related certifications strongly preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience required
