Human Resources Director - Cochran - Seattle


Job description
Our Human Resources Director leads Cochran's HR function and assists the executive and ownership team in ensuring the human resource needs of the company are met.

Consult with all levels of management on employee relations, staffing, compensation, development, organizational and change management issues. Support managers in a variety of employee relations issues including terminations, promotions, performance review, and harassment prevention.
Act as an employee resource, ensuring that employees and managers are able to express concerns in a manner that is respectful of all individuals and supportive of our goals and values.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. Administer and enforce the EEO requirement and affirmative action policy and procedures. Updates employee and supervisor handbooks, training documents and related materials as needed.
Lead the recruitment, interviewing, testing, and selection efforts for open positions. Work closely with hiring managers to identify needs and proactively work to build recruiting pipeline of qualified employees to fill vacant positions.
Oversee the performance appraisal system which may include researching and developing new performance standards as necessary, training managers in the use of the system and answering questions regarding the performance appraisal system. Reinforce performance standards when orienting new employees. Maintains and administers 360 reviews and surveys as requested.
Lead the annual evaluation of employee benefit policies and procedures and research potential new benefit opportunities as needed.
Ensure that the total compensation program is both competitive and appropriate. Provide leadership with tools to help establish and monitor specific and measurable management by objective programs at several levels of the organization. Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rates.
Act as primary contact for conducting investigations of employee issues and work toward positive resolution.
Conduct new employee orientation (including history, values, performance standards, policies and procedures, compensation, benefits and schedule).
Develop effective training and retention programs that best support employees, provide direction and guidance to managers and build a solid culture and values for the organization.
As a member of Cochran’s management team, provide input and guidance on the impact of business planning as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the Cochran’s staff.
Manage the HR Assistant to provide strong administrative HR support to employees. Work in partnership with the finance team to ensure that payroll services are provided in an accurate and timely manner.
Play a proactive role in retaining positive employee relations, a motivated team and in cultivating culture for Cochran across all locations.
Desired Skills and Experience
B.A. in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field with 10+ years of related work experience.
Prior work experience and knowledge of management/labor relations and principles, practices, and procedures in a unionized environment. Prefer background with construction, contracting, electrical or other similar organization.
Demonstrated performance and ability to provide HR consultation to managers and employees on HR issues including Employee Relations, Staffing, Compensation, HR policies and Performance Management.
Prior management and leadership experience for a small HR staff.
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and be creative in developing alternative solutions in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to effectively coach, manage and lead employees and managers in conflict and issue resolution.
This position requires a high energy, creative problem solver with extensive skills managing people and projects in a rapidly growing organization.
Ability to effectively lead multiple activities across a geographically dispersed population of managers and employees.
SPHR or PHR certification.
Have flexibility for travel to Cochran’s offices and large job sites as required.
