As a strategic partner, the HR Director aligns business objectives with employees and management in designated functions and business units. The Director serves as a consultant to management on Human Resource related issues. Successful Director will act as employee champion and change agent while assessing and anticipating HR-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with the central HR department and business management, the Director seeks to develop integrated solutions. The HR Director formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. The HR Director maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business units’ financial position, its mid-range plans, its culture and its competition.

Dual reporting to the VP of the Pacific/Midwest Units and the CHRO. Will also be a member of the HR Leadership Team reporting to the CHRO.


Responsibilities/Duties:

Partner with Business Unit leadership on identifying and resolving complex business and human resources problems
Consult with line management providing HR guidance when appropriate.
Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.
Manage and resolve complex employee relation’s issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with legal counsel as needed/required.
Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
Provides HR Policy guidance and interpretation.
Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.
Identify training and development needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.
Participate in evaluation and monitoring of success of training and development programs. Follow-up to ensure training objectives are met.
Participates and assists the BU in the company-wide job description process and provides input from the BU perspective as necessary in the creation of company-wide salary bands and career path development
Liaison and partner in the recruiting effort for the BU with the corporate Talent Acquisition organization.
Provide expert OD consulting when and where appropriate to ensure the Business Unit’s efficient and effective operation
Partnering with HR Shared Services, deliver timely and effective HR solutions to the Business Unit

Education and Work Experience:

Minimum of 8 - 10 years of the resolution of complex employee relation issues.
Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, workforce development, succession planning and performance management, federal and state respective employment laws.
Undergraduate degree related to human resources, organization development, and/or business. Master’s degree highly desirable.
