Job description
Creative Directors work with business directors and team members of varying disciplines to develop, oversee, and lead design efforts for brand expression and identity, in-store communications, packaging, digital and motion graphics, print and environmental graphics. The individual in this role is expected to have a solid understanding of the retail design industry as a whole, and are conversant in industry standards. They will lead efforts in the Brand Communication discipline and also contribute to all areas of the business, utilizing first-hand knowledge of environments and fixture design, merchandising, brand strategy, and production techniques to bring a fully rounded experience to all of their client work. Creative Directors have direct interaction with client teams, establishing long-term relationships and maintaining daily connections.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensuring the creative is at the best level possible while meeting deadlines, client expectations, brand & retail strategy, and budget.
Stay in tune with client objectives and goals on existing project engagements, while keeping an eye to the future for possible new and extension business opportunities.
Have a complete understanding of CG core capabilities and business objectives, and awareness of areas where CG might expand its offering into other sectors.
Excel at all phases of the creative process, from brainstorming through execution, all within multi-discipline teams. You know how to work methodically and creatively at the same time.
Set a standard of collaboration within your teams, synthesizing and interpreting all team and client input into actionable programs. Follow and encourage the use of CG-established protocols.
Strategy and designs are unique to the client need. Utilize the appropriate design elements for a wide variety of communication solutions.
Can develop compelling retail strategies.
Determine communication strategy and communication hierarchy.
Mentor junior staff members across all disciplines.
Help shore intelligence team and offer with our POV and creative.
Develop and create smart and thoughtful brand documentation presentations.
Understand what clients are saying; read between the lines.
Design for different types of budgets without stunting your creative process.
Lead client engagements and calls as well as internal team meetings.
Give direction and guide different disciplines: visual merchandising, environments, etc.
Support and lead internal marketing initiatives; identify opportunities and ways to improve communication with the studio.
Understand what is missing in a project and fill in without being asked regardless of role. Example: project management or communication.
Help with thought leadership and documented viewpoints in retail.
Help with CG marketing initiatives and client pitches. Present work in dynamic way that wins work.
Hire staff that supports our needs while maintaining our unique culture.
A creative solution is never the same; look for solutions and input from all team members.
Understand all team members’ strengths and weakness. Leverage and shore team as needed with outside sources.

Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelors degree in Graphic Design or greater
7+ years experience in graphic design, with at least 3 years of direct retail design experience, in either an agency or corporate setting.
Understand brand development and how to create and evolve a brand.
Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully of all disciplines and individuals’ points of view.
Ability to art direct, delegate, and participate on teams with inspiration and organization.
Ability to think and create three-dimensionally.
Working knowledge of recent and applicable design trends for any given project and retail.
Understand retail business models and how your design will support them.
Strong intuitive sense of what will work and reasons why. Can work with little to no client information or research.
Strong presentation skills and command of business communications. Can sell their ideas persuasively.
Extremely thoughtful and detail-oriented in your work and communication.
Promoting a positive attitude while working effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to prioritize, juggle and manage a diverse workload with tight deadlines.
Understands technology trends and opportunities as a communication tool and can layer in innovative ideas into any concept as well as simplify scope for a project.
High level of curiosity and awareness of the retail world around you. CG designers notice innovation and get inspiration at any time.
Can interpret personal retail observations, share them with clients and colleagues, and apply them to your project work with confidence and authority.
Demonstrable strong leadership skills on project teams of various size and scope.
Expertise in typography, color theory and other graphic design tools, as well as strong grasp of the tools and technique of other design disciplines within CG.
Ability to help determine and define project scope required for efficient and effective solutions.
Excellent writing ability is key to communicating project goals to internal teams as well as client communication; ability to craft project proposals and design briefs and other business correspondence.
Desire and capacity to represent the company with character, ethics, enthusiasm, and professionalism in all internal, client and industry settings.
Proven, actionable commitment to the growth of the company, including the quality of our staff, client relationships and profits.
Familiarity with architectural documentation, working in scale and perspective.
Advanced skills in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop CS with an understanding of the creation and principles of PDFs.
Ability to understand group dynamics and how to tailor presentations to the audience.
Understands principles of creating final art and design development and can review and detail; understands basic techniques and can lead design development team for developing solutions.
Can do retail audits effortlessly. Can see issues and opportunities at every turn.
