Director - Distribution Human Resources - Rite Aid - Sacramento


Job description
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the creation of HR policies and programs. Evaluate and implement those policies, programs and procedures for all assigned distribution centers, and to support the Human Resource (HR) activities of the Distribution Center Human Resource Managers (HRMs). Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Travel to distribution centers on a regular basis and advise, provide support to, and work closely with the distribution centers management team and hourly associate base.
Assist with the creation of, review, revise, and communicate distribution center policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with all employment laws and monitor distribution center actions for consistent application of policies.
Assist with the recruitment of distribution center management personnel, review staffing functions for distribution centers, and work with HRMs to meet recruitment and/or staffing needs.
Provide payroll and benefit recommendations and/or solutions; direct all payroll changes and/or personnel actions for distribution center associates.
Use database, spreadsheet, and query tools to create reports to analyze HR data and associate trends.
Work with labor relations, the local DC management teams, Regional VP’s and Supply Chain Leadership to maximize the relationships with applicable unions in order to achieve mutually beneficial solutions. Support contract negotiations and arbitration hearings as required.
Develop and assist with the implementation of union avoidance programs.
Recommend, develop, and/or conduct training on HR issues.
Facilitate communication and issue resolution between the distribution centers and corporate HR, Benefits, and Payroll departments.
Participate in strategic planning, yearly budget preparations, and other forecasting projects.
Counsel associates and assist with coaching and disciplining activities.
Analyze turnover, wage rates, benefits and make recommendations for possible changes or program enhancements.
Oversee the maintenance of associate employment files.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises subordinate supervisory and/or non-supervisory personnel and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Rite Aid policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, and disciplining associates; appraising associate performance; and resolving complaints.

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations
This position requires a valid driver's license.

Education:
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Business, Human Resources, and /or Law, plus five (5) years' experience in Human Resources and two (2) years’ experience with union negotiations and union avoidance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
