Vice President - Actuary - Valuation Modeling - Prudential - Iselin


Job description
Valuation and Modeling
· Lead actuarial team responsible for modeling and production of actuarial items for all of Prudential Retirement’s product lines in support of GAAP (LRR, VOBA, DAC) and statutory (AAT, RBC testing) valuation and reporting; also provide modeling in support of Economic Capital, RAROC, and replicating portfolios.
· Lead the development of succinct analysis of results and directly engage with senior management to explain technical results to non-technical audiences and share insights.
· Responsible for assumption updates and corresponding approval processes in support of valuation modeling.
· Signing authority as (or in support of) appointed actuary for regulatory reporting and actuarial memoranda of multiple legal entities.
· Implement and maintain effective valuation modeling processes, infrastructure, and controls to ensure accurate and timely delivery of quality results.
· Lead audits/examinations of valuation modeling.
· Develop and implement effective valuation modeling processes to support new products and new business implementation


Strategic Direction and Influence
· Partner with actuarial peers to influence and respond to evolving regulatory frameworks and develop required infrastructure and modeling processes.
· Directly engage with internal partners, external regulators and with senior management on key valuation modeling issues.
· Oversee and participate in product development and transaction reviews from modeling perspective to ensure appropriate valuation modeling frameworks are applied and implemented.


Team Leadership
· Direct report to the Retirement Valuation Actuary.
· Support the final design, roll-out and implementation of an integrated valuation team across Retirement products and legal entities.
· Continuously improve actuarial talent, raising the performance bar, and motivating and inspiring team to high performance and full potential.
· Strategically contribute to the Retirement actuarial team, driving a high performance climate across actuarial and contributing to enterprise initiatives.

Desired Skills and Experience
· Superior technical and analytical expertise in actuarial valuation and modeling; ability to oversee complex actuarial work in reserving and modeling, and independently guide, evaluate and resolve all technical elements in partnership with finance and corporate teams.
· Deep knowledge of valuation and modeling principles and methods under GAAP, Statutory and economic frameworks.
· Proven leadership acumen: vision, passion, and ability to lead change, motivate and strengthen talent; facilitate collaborative efforts to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.
· Ability to collaborate and influence across Retirement actuarial teams, corporate actuarial, finance/controllers teams, internal and external auditors, corporate partners, and communicate effectively with business leaders.
· Excellent presentation and communication skills; ability to communicate results and influence at senior management level.
· Strategic thinker and problem solver on emerging valuation modeling issues: ability to research, interpret and apply appropriate methodologies for modeling of actuarial items under GAAP, statutory, and economic frameworks and in compliance with company standards
· Collaborative and team-oriented leadership style; proven ability to lead large actuarial/financial reporting teams.
