Job description
We have an opportunity for a strategic, creative and motivated individual that will execute Colorado PERA’s strategic public affairs engagement with our stakeholders. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Communications will advance, oversee and direct activities of the Communication Services Division. In partnership with the executive director, board members and senior management, the Director will continue to develop, monitor and establish strategic policy, community relations, brand awareness, multi-faceted communications and public education plans, reputation management policies and strategies including being a spokesperson in various outreach activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Partner with the executive director, board members and staff in delivering an overall brand awareness, public affairs, marketing, and reputation management strategy and communications program that effectively positions PERA as “One of Colorado’s Best Investments,” high-quality provider of retirement security for current and future members and retirees.
Execute and refine effective multi-faceted public affairs, education and brand/reputation management strategies, materials, outreach and activities to drive, enhance and promote the PERA policy goals and objectives.
Define, communicate and represent PERA’s public policy initiatives with elected officials, local business chambers of commerce, economic development groups, influential community leaders and government officials throughout the state of Colorado and nationally.
Build relationships with like-minded organizations, elected officials and other associations/groups with intersecting areas of interest or concern.
Advance PERA’s public position and policy objectives including but not limited to community relations outreach, public speaking engagements and event facilitation for a wide range of audiences such as, business people, community groups and governmental organizations that influence and educate general to specific audiences.
Counsel and advise public policy and strategic communication efforts to desired outcomes working with internal and external resources and managing day-to-day operations and budget.
Manage and direct other projects and responsibilities as needed.
Desired Skills and Experience
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Bachelor’s and/or postgraduate degree and accomplished career working in a senior level public communications and policy leadership role
Demonstrated success at leading strategic law, policy, communications, marketing, advertising and campaign efforts requiring creating and delivering powerful, compelling written and oral communications
Professional speaking experience and knowledge of speech construction and delivery
Successful management experience in driving results, project management, motivating and engaging staff
Expertise in multi-media production, content, target audience analysis
Ability to travel as necessary; overnight travel up to 50% of time including nights and weekends
