Real Estate Counsel - Canon USA - New York
Job description
Canon U.S.A. Inc. is seeking a qualified Real Estate counsel, with a focus on reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial leases, as well as design, construction and build-out documentation for owned and leased premises, brokerage agreements and contracts for various services required for a building owner or lessee. General commercial transactional experience a plus.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have responsibility for providing legal counsel and advice to our corporate/subsidiary business groups related to all areas of real estate law including, but not limited to, reviewing, drafting, negotiating and interpreting commercial leases, as well as design, construction and build-out documentation for owned and leased premises, brokerage agreements, tax incentive agreements and contracts for various services required for a building owner or lessee. Such contracts include maintenance, security, cleaning, HVAC, landscaping, utility, safety, furniture, signage, services, procurement, consulting, non-disclosure and other agreements. General commercial transactional experience a plus. The successful candidate must have the ability to manage a broad array of matters relating to real estate and general building affairs and an ability to work on other commercial matters as time permits.
Desired Skills and Experience
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience providing real estate and commercial counsel and advice in either a law firm or an in-house role
In-house experience with a large company legal department is preferred, but not required
Must be admitted to a state bar, preferably the New York State Bar
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team settings across various groups both within our Legal Division and throughout various Canon U.S.A. businesses and subsidiaries
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required , including the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex legal issues to business groups
