NPI Transition Program Manager - GoPro - San Francisco


Job description

GoPro is seeking a top tier candidate for the New Product Introduction (NPI) Transition Program Manager role. This position will be responsible for ramping new and existing products at an offshore Tier 1 EMS supplier. This role will work with cross-functional teams to develop detailed transition plans including capacity and ramp plans, material readiness and line qualification. This individual will be responsible for the coordination of all NPI builds at offshore EMS supplier and will be the primary Operations contact for the Product Development team during all development phases to ensure new designs are ready for volume production from a documentation, manufacturability, testability and cost standpoint. Working with our SQE team this individual will develop long-term supplier performance expectations and manage the supplier to improve their performance and time-to-market to reduce overall cost of ownership. This individual will have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and interact with multiple levels of management, both internal and external, to achieve goals. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across multiple disciplines and all levels of the organization. Must have a commitment to do everything possible to ensure the team’s success as well as the flexibility to quickly re-direct efforts based on new information. NPI program schedule will be jointly owned by this individual and the Engineering Program Manager.

Position requires strong communication skills in an individual that is self-directed and capable of meeting aggressive schedules. Must possess exceptional organizational skills and be capable of managing several projects in parallel. Frequent travel to China required (up to 20%).

Responsibilities

Develop detailed transition plans for existing and new Products
Lead EMS operations team in planning and executing development builds and ensuring readiness for mass production
For new products, ensure each level of the gate review is ready for next level prior to approving, primary focus on documentation, cost, AML and test
Coordinate with Engineering to ensure products are optimized for cost, manufacturability, testability and supply chain flexibility and efficiency
Work closely with internal and Asia-based teams to manage schedule, capacity, material availability, quality issues and product updates
Coordinate line qualifications at Tier-1 EMS supplier
Assess, analyze, consolidate, and communicate risk and status clearly and succinctly to management on a weekly basis
Manage all operations-related communications, upward and downward through the organization; escalate key issues and present options for resolution to the executive team
Coordinate the qualification of component level second sources
Identify opportunities for NPI business process improvements and drive implementation
Develop processes and procedures related to NPI
Manage a successful handoff to sustaining team

Desired Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain Management or related field
Five years of experience in high volume manufacturing operations in an outsourced environment
Experience in large, complex project transitions involving line setup, capacity planning, yield improvement, etc.
Demonstrated program management fundamentals experience including defining, scheduling, tracking, communicating status, prioritizing and managing projects working knowledge of program management processes and tools with demonstrated results.
Demonstrated capability of handling multiple projects in parallel
Direct experience either working at or with Tier 1 EMS suppliers
Working knowledge of PCBA assembly, product assembly and product manufacturing test
Experience managing cross-functional teams in a consumer electronics company
Strong problem solving skills
Ability to interface effectively across organizational and geographic boundaries.
Strong interpersonal and planning skills. Demonstrated ability to work with engineers and all levels of management
Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, negotiation, planning, organization and facilitation skills
Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to achieve results in a fast moving, dynamic environment
Highly proficient with Excel and related Microsoft Products
Fluent in English

Preferred

Fluent in Mandarin
Experience working with Arena or Agile PLM
Experience working with ERP systems
Knowledge and experience with continuous improvement and six-sigma methodologies
Negotiation experience with global suppliers
ISO9000 familiarity
