Finance Director - NetApp - Sunnyvale


Job description

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Finance, this position has three areas of critical responsibility and ownership:
• Working with the office of Corporate Development and Strategy:
o Providing financial support and managing the financial teams engaged in M&A and strategic activities, including global alignment of financial activities.
o Developing and leading a consistent, optimized and global process to work on strategic arrangements.
o Lead finance related integration activities for Company acquisitions.
o Build processes and discipline into upstream and downstream activities and organizations impacting the strategic initiatives undertaken by NetApp and ensuring a positive impact on Netapp’s results.
• Long term strategic options – responsible for coordinating the process and any required modeling for the various long term strategic options NetApp finance leads, or may contribute on behalf of the executive staff or the board of directors.
• Strategic projects – responsible for projects requiring complex financial modeling and scenario planning (e.g. large capital investments, divestments, new business models, capital allocation)
• The position will have a dotted line to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and work closely with the corporate lines of business including External Reporting, Corporate Tax, FP&A and Treasury. The position will manage any number of consultative and/or outsourced provider resources, and will play a key role in driving the relationship and governance for the Company’s strategic initiatives. In addition, the position will synthesize strategic initiatives for the broader finance community and operationalize deliverables, schedules and support roles for the teams
• Manage a small team of professionals
• Engage the broader business and finance organization on value-add projects and partnerships. This is a role that builds upon prior experiences to provide value-add consultative services across the entire enterprise

This individual will work diligently as a trusted finance partner and provide organizational and thought leadership in understanding and globally integrating a number of key finance processes as they relate to strategic initiatives of the business. Requires adapting and evolving in a fast paced work environment, often working under tight deadlines and changing requirements.
Essential Functions:
• Gather, analyze, prepare and summarize recommendations for financial plans, acquisition activity, trended future requirements and operating forecasts.
• Design best practices with cross-organizational teams/groups to provide financial planning and support to the CSO
• Develop processes and frameworks to assess strategic options and determine financial modeling frameworks;
• Work with the Corporate Development office to help create business cases and modeling scenarios for new initiatives, including strategic positioning, financial targets and operational goals
• Develop strategic models and be a thought leader in the broader corporate development and finance controllership organizations to help formulate strategies and ensure that the organization reviews benchmarks from both external and internal factors
• Lead the post merger integration process for finance including cross functional management and hand off to operations.
• Long term strategic initiatives - Create the process and also any long term strategic modeling required.
• Financial leadership and analysis for investment strategies that the company is considering (Treasury or Corp Dev related)

Desired Skills and Experience

Job Requirements

• 15+ years experience in progressively more responsible leadership, with in-depth process experience and understanding.
• Track record of successful management of both strategic and operational activities. A key focus on enabling success and participation of the broader finance organization.
• Extensive experience in M&A transactions along with complex valuation modeling.
• Successful with driving change management, while getting buy-in from key stakeholders and gaining advocacy
• Proven strength in managing and leading direct and indirect teams
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, especially presentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to quickly synthesize data and provide analysis. Perform well under pressure.
• Broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex accounting issues.
• Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, and Power Point software programs.
• Solid problem solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated success in partnering across functions and levels of management to drive results.

Education and Experience:
• A minimum of 15 years of work experience, including as a people manager is required.
• A University Degree or equivalent experience is required; a Graduate Degree and/or CPA are preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects is required
• Merger and Acquisition experience from a financial / integration competency base preferred.
