Job description

The incumbent will provide financial forecasting, analytics and reporting responsibilities for MetLife’s Alternative Investments business with assets under management in excess of $7.0 billion. You will manage a world class forecasting, reporting and analytics group that will partner with the Alternative Investment Unit to meet performance and risk management objectives and provide the Financial Management Group management with transparency and value added information regarding the Alternatives Investments portfolio .

This position requires a strong mix of leadership, management and individual contributor skills since some aspects of the position will be delivering the value added activities through the management of the others members of the team while some will require the individual to accomplish that task as an individual contributor. In addition, the Alternative Investment asset class requires a very specialized working knowledge of the industry due to its niche like nature so the position requires someone who is resourceful in learning a specialized asset class and applying basic financial planning, projection and analysis skills to it.

Principal Responsibilities:

Lead all activities related to portfolio performance and attribution reporting, including analysis and benchmarking
Lead all activities related to planning and projections of portfolio income, asset balances and cash flow activity
Coordinate the GAAP, statutory and tax policies on specific investment or portfolio performance; perform portfolio modeling and scenario and valuation analysis
Understand Investments – General Authorizations, derivative use plans, statutory and GAAP reporting and tax strategies, and how they affect the Alternative Investments business
Service as the Alternative Investments Unit’s compliance officer; work with Investment Risk Management and Alternative Investments asset managers to define measurements and responsibilities
Oversight of accounting, financial reporting and capital call & distribution process for portfolio investments.
Serve as the Alternative Investment Unit’s liaison with other units within MetLife as it relates to financial and operational aspects of the Alternative Investments portfolio
Service as the Alternative Investment Unit’s audit and information technology liaison
Ensue all Alternative investments are accurately reflected in SEC filings, quarterly financial statements, rating agency information and management reports
Direct management of a department and oversight of back office accounting and administration department

Job Requirements

Required Experience:

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in finance analysis or accounting

Desired Experience:

B.S. Degree in Finance or Accounting highly preferred
MBA, CFA and/or CPA (or equivalent professional qualification) preferred
Prior knowledge of investment products and how each product generates different income streams
Strong knowledge of accounting for invested assets
Business experience in financial services, with strong preference for insurance
Ability to quickly build strong partnerships and work in a highly matrixed organization
Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work with senior management
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Prior experience managing direct reports is desired
