Director - Strategy - Open Innovation Center - Samsung - Mountain View
Job description
Open Innovation Center (OIC) is a recently launched Samsung Electronics organization based in Silicon Valley, CA. OIC’s mission is to incubate and build world class software and service capabilities. OIC will be active in four primary areas:
Investments in and acquisitions of early stage technology startups
Incubation and prototyping of software services for Samsung devices
Strategic partnerships with leading media and tech companies and universities
Collaboration with entrepreneurs, startups and developers to foster development for Samsung cross-device ecosystem
Bringing together Samsung Electronics’ substantial resources with the Silicon Valley’s top talents, OIC will create and develop digital technologies that will power hundreds of millions of devices and impact consumers on a global basis.
Common Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategy development: Lead and support the development of Samsung strategy and long-term strategic priorities across new content and service verticals, and Samsung device portfolio.
Strategic execution: Structure and lead complex strategic projects for new content service partnerships that differentiate Samsung products and/or grow new revenue streams. Bring key business and stakeholders together to collaborate and make decisions with a balance of short and long term benefit.
Thought leadership: Develop and articulate OIC's position on long-term strategic issues
Market intelligence: Develop insights about key industry trends (technology, competitive analysis, consumers, etc.) and inform the organization of their strategic implications
Desired Skills and Experience
A proven track record of success developing strategies for complex global businesses
Deep background and knowledge of new trends and primary business drivers in Media and Technology.
Good understanding of new technologies (in particular mobile and TV)
Excellent ability to put complex ideas into clear frameworks, use data to generate insights and recommendations
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proven leadership in building, developing, and retaining high performing teams
Comfortable with ambiguity
Qualifications:
MBA from a top school, with a minimum of 10 years post-MBA experience in related fields.
Top strategy consulting (e.g. BCG, McKinsey or Bain) or top corporate strategy/innovation experience, combined with consumer electronics is a must.
Strategic expertise in at least two of the following areas: internet, consumer electronics, video, social networking, social gaming, and mobile.
