Director - Human Capital - Robin Hood - New York
Job description
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Robin Hood exists to eradicate poverty in New York City. Its people are its most important asset to fulfilling this mission. The Director of Human Capital will be at the frontline of attracting, retaining, and developing Robin Hood’s staff, ensuring that the organization is well equipped to take on the critical fight against poverty in New York City.
Working closely with the senior leadership team at Robin Hood, the Director, Human Capital will manage a Manager of Talent Acquisition and a Human Capital Associate.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to help drive the development and management of a high performing talent function at one of the nation’s most impactful foundations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Overall Talent Strategy and Management
Develop comprehensive strategic talent acquisition, development, and retention plans to meet the organization’s human capital needs; provide leadership and guidance on talent management to members of Robin Hood’s staff
Play a key role in leading any organizational culture changes necessary to ensure a consistently high-performing organization, including making sure that systems and processes are in place to support high-performing teams
Represent Robin Hood’s human capital philosophy and expertise in external forums
Performance Management and Compensation
Work with managers throughout the organization to help define, establish and communicate annual goals for team members and ensure that managers are tracking progress against goals
Set high expectations for accountability and delivering candid, targeted feedback to reports and other key leaders in order to drive execution of objectives
Ensure that managers and staff members are regularly engaging in feedback conversations and that managers are continuously coaching and mentoring team members
Administer and facilitate the annual review process, working closely with the Managing Director of Human Capital and managers throughout the organization
Drive compensation benchmarking analysis, ensuring that compensation at Robin Hood is externally competitive and internally consistent
Professional Development and Training
Design a comprehensive approach to professional development at Robin Hood, incorporating both formal training programs and the development of coaching skills throughout the organization
Design specific key training programs such as managerial training and giving feedback effectively
Deliver select training programs to staff, with a focus on developing strong mid-level managers and staff
Identify external training partners as necessary to extend Robin Hood’s capabilities
Talent Acquisition
Working with the Manager of Talent Acquisition, ensure that Robin Hood recruits and retains exceptional and diverse talent
Cultivate high-level prospects for Robin Hood, while helping the organization build and promote its employment brand
Ensure consistent use of scorecards, interview guidelines, evaluation tools, and assessment procedures, working with the Manager of Talent Acquisition and staff managers to refine these tools as needed
Employee Relations and HR Administration
Oversee the Associate, Human Capital to ensure that benefits, payroll and other aspects of Robin Hood’s human resources infrastructure operate with both exceptional accuracy and a strong customer service orientation
Conduct annual review of benefits provider and facilitate decision-making process with senior leadership/finance teams as necessary
Develop and implement processes to gather employee feedback, resolve employee concerns, and actively investigate employee issues
Design reports and systems to effectively capture and communicate human capital metrics to relevant internal stakeholders
Desired Skills and Experience
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
A strong commitment to Robin Hood’s mission of eradicating poverty in New York City
A minimum of ten years of professional experience, with at least five years of human resources leadership experience
Exceptional project management and execution skills with a track record of developing and implementing new or improved systems and processes, achieving strong results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style
Previous experience managing people, with a track record of leading these people to achieve ambitious goals
Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the intellectual depth and maturity to work with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Ability to coach and mentor direct reports, peers, and senior leaders on sound talent management practices; track record of driving organizational results by coaching and mentoring
Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to articulate a clear and compelling vision and persuade others to implement it
Excellent relationship building skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment and enthusiasm for operating amidst complexity and change
