Job description
The Director of Engineering will lead a world-class team of technical architects and engineers dedicated to building data-focused solutions across a variety of systems and technologies. Our product roadmap is aggressive and technically challenging, requiring the team to iterate quickly to meet the demands of savvy data consumers. The team will need to solve challenging technical problems and delivery consistently in a demanding environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead a high-performance engineering group that consistently delivers high-quality product releases on time, on scope and on budget
Provide technical direction for product development activities in conjunction with technical architects or technical leads
Create and review technical deliverables and assist with the design and development of critical features
Identify and act on opportunities to improve the processes and performance of the engineering team
Identify new technologies and tools to assist in solving challenging technical problems
Mentor and challenge software engineers and other team members, while growing your own technical, functional and leadership skills
Manage objectives, performance reviews and career development for technical team members
Acquire and maintain expert-level knowledge of all product functionality
Collaborate with Product Management on product strategy and roadmap development for all products
Work collaboratively with a variety of functional teams (quality assurance, project management, technical operations, product management) to deliver projects using scrum, agile and iterative development methodologies
Minimum Qualifications:
Proven track record of developing complex software products in a fast-moving environment
Ten+ years of experience in software development, including a minimum of five years at a lead or management level encompassing technical leadership, software project management and personnel management
Well-versed in data-focused concepts including data warehousing, data analytics and OLAP technology and tools
Excellent communication skills in both written and oral forms and strong interpersonal skills
Willingness and desire to be hands-on in design and development activities
Strong interest in technologies such as MapReduce, NoSQL databases and MPP databases
Ability to mentor and motivate technical architects and engineers
Ability to understand the business and apply technology solutions to deliver results and products, while staying current in technology trends
Ability to accurately estimate and plan application development tasks
Experience leading development organizations employing an agile development process
High energy level, strong team player and good work ethic
B.S. in computer science, mathematics or a related field preferred
Secondary Qualifications (Nice to Have):
Digital marketing and advertising domain knowledge
Experience with third party ad serving solutions (i.e. DFP/DFA/DART, Atlas)
Familiarity with Amazon Web Services
