Systems Manager, Hardware Loadbalancing Platform Amazon - Seattle


Job Description
Amazon.com is looking for a highly motivated Internet Systems / Software Manager to lead a highly skilled team of systems engineers and software developers who are responsible for company-wide Hardware Balancing services. As a technical manager, you will provide exceptional leadership & management for a staff of eight team members (five local, three remote). Your team will own end-to-end lifecycle management of the hardware load balancing device platform. 
Your key challenges/duties will include: 
Ensuring rock-solid, Tier0 service security & availability for the load balancer fleet . You will drive metrics, monitoring and automated response that enable incident detection and auto-remediation before it becomes customer impacting. You will be proactive in your operations and innovation to stay ahead of all security related matters. You will drive to architectures that have the lowest possible blast radius.
Drive low-cost, agile scalability. Partnering with your company-wide customer base, you will transparently & meticulously manage your fleet capacity needs and execute cleanly to plan. As appropriate, you will own 3rd party vendor relationships. You will be responsible for your budget and ensure every dollar has an owner. 
Enable flexibility of the platform. You will build and modify software tools that can easily integrate additional load balancing platforms. You will partner with, and drive the network engineering teams to the same design philosophy.

Have a strong understanding of Software Development, Linux & Networking Technologies. The ideal candidate will have past experience working as a systems or software engineer. You will also have a strong level of knowledge in Linux and Networking. You will enjoy keeping your technical skills reasonably current, to the point that you can still contribute to architecture discussions. You regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues. 
Have strong project & product management experience. The successful candidate will create product roadmaps for the team. This will include helping innovate and invent new value-add services in the wider layer 7 request routing field. You will need excellent technical project management skills to enable you to deliver on your commitments to your customers.
Know how to run a tight, lean, efficient operation. The right candidate will want to measure everything and be very data driven. He/she will excel at using metrics, monitoring and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes and performance of their team.
A B.S. in Computer Science and several years experience in a large-scale enterprise IT environment is required. Experience in software development is also highly advantageous. Some escalation oncall duties are also required.
